SACRED WEB Volume 38

A Journal of Tradition and Modernity
Ed: M. Ali Lakhani, Q.C.

Sacred Web, founded in 1998, is the leading publication in its field, which is to address issues of the
modern world based on perennial principles and values found in all wisdom traditions. The journal’s
contributors have included the Prince of Wales, the Dalai Lama, and scholars such as Seyyed Hossein
Nasr and Karen Armstrong.

Volume 38 includes the following content which will be of special interest to the Jamat:

 An editorial by M. Ali Lakhani, Q.C. examines a passage by Ibn ‘Arabi on the theme of Light and
Shadow and their symbolic significance for modernity.
 An essay by Imad Jafar deals with some instances of Islam’s relationship with Christian saints,
and comments on its relevance for our times.
 An essay by Professor Ian Netton surveys the Ismaili-influenced Ikhwan al-Safa’, focusing on
their teaching stories.
 Other essays deal with the relation of Being and Essence in Islamic philosophy; the symbolism of
the Gardens of Paradise; the symbolism of Christmas; and traditional approaches to modern art.
 The journal also contains several book reviews and poems, including new translations of Ghazals
by Hafez of Shiraz.
