If you want a close-up view, the Glasgow Rodeo
Committee has a deal for you! They are accepting
bid proposals for the recently constructed Skyboxes.
These skyboxes are great private seating for
spectators offering a spectacular view right from the
Northeast Montana Fair’s arena, basically the same
view that the rodeo and derby announcers have from
the “crow’s nest”. The Skybox that you will be bidding
on (minimum bid of $500) includes eight event
tickets. Maximum seating is 10 people. This bid is
good per night of the event. If you are interested in

Let’s talk about the pool situation
To Whom it may concern,
My name is Susan Murr. I am 32 years old. I am
a mother of one 8-year-old girl who enjoys swim team
and swimming for fun.
I was born and raised here in Glasgow, MT, as well
as my parents of 55 years. I work at our rural hospital
(Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital) as a Software
System Analyst. I have been working at the hospital
for a total of 7 years. I am looking to raise money to
help pay for the Valley County Community Pool. Any
$$ amount will help build a new pool. We still need an
estimated $1,787,316. We do have a grant in place, if we
do not have the pool completed by 2023, we will lose the
grant. To have the pool built by 2023 we would have to
start destruction by the fall of 2022 and start building
in the spring of 2023 to have it complete. Unfortunately
the Valley County Community Pool Campaign is not a
501c(3) yet but are working on it.
Their mission is to provide the citizens of Valley
County with a safe and reliable swimming pool that
meets their educational, physical fitness and recreational
needs.
The campaign began with a simple idea that has
blossomed into a real opportunity to make an impact.
To make this a reality, we have decided to reach out
and get the support of those who believe in our vision.
Taking part in the campaign will give you a chance to
join a truly amazing adventure and promote actual
change.
Glasgow Pool, which opened in 1974, has long
been a place of relaxation, exercise, practice, and fun.
Unfortunately, costly repairs and rework are more than
the almost 45-year-old pool can take. Community

members, swim team parents and leaders have come
together to form a committee dedicated to raising money
toward a new pool. We are focused on fund-raising and
support from our state, town and community to pull
together the necessary funds to make our new pool
dream a reality.
The existing pool is in a sad state of disrepair.
Each Spring, the city and the Kiwanis swim team spend
over 100 hours of labor getting the pool ready for the
new season. The preparations include patching cracks
that have developed over the last year, re-mortaring
chunks of concrete that have been dislodged through
the previous pool season and freeze-thaw winter cycle
and painting the entire pool with a pool grade oil-based
paint. The pool has several significant cracks that cannot
be patched over or repaired. These cracks continually
leak groundwater into the pool cavity. The addition of
groundwater into the pool water during the swimming
season significantly adds to the amount of chlorination
required to keep the pool safe and within operational
guidelines for public access pools. The deck that
surrounds the pool has sunk and is cracked in several
places. This has placed significant pressure on the side
walls causing them to bow in towards the pool cavity.
The cracks in the deck create dangerous trip hazards
and have sent several kids to the local’s emergency room
for cuts and stitches.
The new pool will include:
• ADA compliant zero depth entry
• Off Street drop-off loop with handicapped parking
• 30’X94’ pool house including concessions, family
changing room, and 1 park-accessible restroom
• 6 lane 25m pool
With proper maintenance, the pool tank, gutter
and piping will easily have a 50-year life. The filter and
valves have a 30-40 year life and pumps have a 25-30
year life.
 Residents of Glasgow and Valley County, as well
as the surrounding communities, from ages 6 months
and up, utilize the swimming pool. The common uses
are for Red Cross swim lessons, recreational (open)
swimming, water aerobics and competitive swimming.
In 2018 there were 14,399 patron visits. Visitors
participated in
• A record number of 606 individual swim lessons
• 62 Swim Team athletes, 2x/Day
• Birthday parties/Church parties
• Water Aerobics, daily
• Lifeguard Training
• Lap swim
• SCUBA dive training
The total estimated project cost of the new drive-
thru drop off/pickup loop, pool house, zero depth entry,
and 25-meter six lane pool is $2.775 million.
Your donation will go toward the Valley County
Community Pool. This is very important to me as a
swim team parent that we get a new pool before ours is
no longer operational. We live around Fort Peck Lake,
the lake is 134 miles long at normal operating level and
feel its important for our kids in the community to have
a place to learn how to swim before swimming in the
Fort Peck Lake. We also have the Milk River that runs

morning, actually a day before it was supposed to get
here according to Valley Litho’s delivery zone chart.

We’re gearing up to print the Northeast Montana
Fair’s PRCA Rodeo programs, so we’ve been dealing with
Myron Malnaa a lot this past week. He’s got the contestant
sheets, and there is a pile of the top contenders in each
event scheduled to be in Glasgow. We’ll be taking a look
at some of the names in the Buzz before the Montana
Bar’s Cowboy Calcutta. You might want a Skybox...
