TITLE:

THE LEVEL OF EFFECTIVENESS OF ARALING PANLIPUNAN 6 TASK-BASED ACTIVITY

SHEETS (APTAS)

I. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

The development of Araling Panlipunan 6 Task-Based Activity Sheets (APTAS)

is anchored on Dep. Ed Order no.12, s.2020 entitled “Adoption of the Basic Education Learning

Continuity Plan for School Year 2020-2021” states the different learning modes will be used as

an alternative learning platform in place of the delivery of traditional face-to-face classroom

instruction to ensure the continuity of education remain afloat. Relative to the implementation of

new normal for the incoming School Year 2020-2021, the development of the Learning Activity

Sheets (LAS) shall be based on the streamlining of the k to 12 curricula into Most Essential

Learning Competencies (MELC) issued by the Central Office. The LAS shall be utilized by

learners during the home learning sessions.

Dodd (2015) as cited by Tek Mani Karki (2018) supplementary materials help to

motivate the learners and enable them to understand and grasp the information from a given

text. These materials will save time and effort and lessen the burden of the teacher while

presenting the learning items. On the other hand, Corpuz and Lucido (2012) cited the following

guide questions in selecting, processing, and developing material: Do the materials give a true
2

picture of the idea/ subject presented? Does the material contribute meaningful content to the

topic? Is the material aligned to the curriculum standards and competencies? Is the material

culture-and grades-sensitive? Does the material have a cultural bias? Is the material

appropriate for the age, intelligence, and experience of the learners? Is the physical condition of

the instructional material is satisfactory? Are the Instructional materials helped to make students

better thinkers and develop their critical faculties? Is the instructional material worth the time to

expense and effort involved? Does the material promote self-study? Is the material worth the

time, expense, and effort involved?

The development of Araling Panlipunan Task-Based Activity Sheets is both a challenge

and a responsibility to cater to the emerging needs of the students in the new scheme of

education. As such, this research proposal seeks to develop and validate APTAS as

supplementary learning materials in Araling Panlipunan 6.

II. ACTION RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The study aims to develop the Araling Panlipunan Task-Based Activity Sheets (APTAS)

for the enhancement of Araling Panlipunan Literacy Skills of Grade 6 pupils to be used during

COVID-19 pandemic in Tabuco Central School for the school year 2020- 2021.

Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What is the level of academic performance from 1st-3rd quarter?

2. Is there a significant difference between the pupils’ pre-test and post-test results using the

Araling Panlipunan 6 Task-Based Activity Sheets (APTAS)?

III. PROPOSED INNOVATION, INTERVENTION, AND STRATEGY

The study will be used both as an innovation and intervention to assist the Grade 6 pupils in

learning Araling Panlipunan 6.

3

This APTAS to be used in the conduct of this study is a teacher-made learning activity

sheets that will enhance the pupils’ literacy skills in Araling Panlipunan 6 competencies. This will

be administered in the 4th quarter for the school year of 2020-2021. The results will be analyzed

and plan for a follow-up intervention.

IV. ACTION RESEARCH METHODS

a. Participants and/or other sources of data and information

The respondents of the study are Grade 6 students from Tabuco Central School,

Barangay Tabuco, Naga City because this is the only central school who are implementing

the full implementation of modular distance learning, particularly, six regular sections of

Grade 6. Moreover, quasi-experimental methods that involve the creation of a comparison

group are most often used when it is not possible to randomize individuals or groups to

treatment and control groups. This is supported by Shuttleworth (n.d), that quasi-

experimental design can be used when random selection of groups cannot be achieved.

Thus, the non-equivalent groups pre-test-posttest experimental control comparison is going

to be adopted following the figure below:

Experimental Group O (pretest) X (Intervention) O (Posttest)

Control Group O (pretest) O (Posttest)
There will be 30 pupils in control group and 30 pupils in experimental group.

b. Data Gathering Methods

A permit will be from the school head to allow the researcher to conduct the study. The

researcher will begin the study by submitting a letter of request to the school principal of Tabuco

Central School asking permission to conduct the study using classes in grades 6. After the

approval of the request to conduct the study, the APTAS will undergo evaluation and validation

of the EPS-Araling Panlipunan and Quality Assurance Team of Tabuco CS. A rubric will be
4

used an as evaluation guide. The researcher will request from the six Grade 6 advisers a copy

of grading sheets in Araling Panlipunan from 1st-3rd quarter of the pupils involved in the study.

The researcher will distribute the materials to the pupils through grade 6 advisers. Before the

fourth grading period, pre-test will be administered to get the initial results of the scores of two

groups before the use of enhancement program then post-test will be given after the

implementation of the enhancement program. The gathered data will be tallied and organized

for the table presentations and statistical computations.

c. Data Analysis Plan

This study will use mixed method to analyze both quantitative and qualitative data.

The statistical treatments to be used are Mean, Standard Deviation and Paired t-test. Mean

will be used to determine the AP literacy skills of Grade 6 pupils. Standard Deviation will be

used to determine the variability in the AP literacy skills level of Grade 6 pupils. A paired t-

test will be used to compare averages (means) before and after the enhancement program.
