Artifact #2: Multicultural Lesson Activity

For the required assignment I have decided to create a multicultural lesson that focuses

on moderating positive cultural experiences by stimulating the students’ perspectives from their

peers by reenacting musical artists/historical figures/food vendors, while facilitating a unique

experience for the class by incorporating: musical performance/activity. The objective/goal #1-

Develop multiple historical perspectives.

This multicultural activity will be presented for a 5th grade History class. From the

provided goal, students will learn how to how to research information of cultural backgrounds,

present the material in a respectable manner, network with other 5th grade peers, and monitoring

the inclusion of all students from different backgrounds. The objective/goal is: #6- Build social

relationships to promote interest in differences and include others in school and social activities.

Summary

Students will select a favorite music artist or historical figure to role play in our schools

first history concert/festival. The figure has to be culturally appropriate for the theme, and if

student cannot find a particular artist, then student will have to pick a random name provided in a

jar. The student will research the role and interpret the particular historical figure on stage.

Students will recreate a 2-3 min song about the cultural background of that historical figure. If

student does not want to participate on stage, then the student can be a vendor instead, a vendor

is a student who will provide snacks of the assigned cultural background during “intermission.”

The vendors will let the “customers/fans” know 4 W’s of their food item. Before the concert,

students are assigned with an autograph book and food vendor tickets. The goal is for the

students are to compare/contrast experiences while being in a culturally diverse environment. At

the end of the show, the “fans,” a.k.a. the students whom are observing and journaling about the

concert can grab an autograph from their favorite figure, but the fans have to know three facts

about that artist/historical figure that was presented during their performance in order to get the

autograph. At the end of the activity, the students will summarize their concert experience, what

they have learned from three different artists/figures/vendors, and answer the 4W’s about their

favorite artist/figure/vendor from the show.
