Ms. Juanita Arrosa

NSTP and COC Coordinator
St. Scholatica’s College, Manila

Dear Ms. Gale,

My name is Juris Augustine I. Matavia from the Music department enrolled in your Lay
Apostolate program this semester.

I am writing this letter to apologize for not doing the assigned task in NEO which was
assigned on April 12, 2021 and the expected submission date was April 17, 2021. The
reason for not doing the homework was that I was honestly not on track of the activities
posted in NEO but I was actively participating in my assigned group in doing our module
and video recordings. I forgot to do the research paper because of some difficulties I am
experiencing lately but I sincerely wanted to pass your subject.

I know that I will not get credit for this homework since it is late, but I wanted you to know
that I take learning seriously. In the future, I will manage my time better and make
homework more of a priority.

Sincerely,

Juris Augustine I. Matavia

Research Paper - National Situation

The COVID-19 pandemic has quickly turned into an unexpected

worldwide economic and labor disaster, with serious consequences here in our

country, Philippines. This research paper explored the unemployment and

positive cases rates in the Philippines as well as the effects of COVID-19 in

several aspects. The information gathered were taken from the statistics

dating from February to May 2021.

The effect of the COVID-19 has affected unemployment, with 4.2 million

Filipinos declared unemployed in February this year, according to the

Philippine Statistics Authority. According to the February survey, 9.1 million

Filipinos were either temporarily or permanently laid off. 6.9 million of these

people were re-employed, while 1.2 million are still unemployed.

From 3 January 2020 to 29 May 2021, there were 1,209,154 confirmed

cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines, with 20,566 fatalities reported to WHO. A

total of 2,778,677 vaccine doses has been given as of May 16, 2021. The DOH
stated that it will investigate recommendations to let fully vaccinated persons

avoid wearing face masks, prompting recommendations that the country

should relax its health procedures as more people are vaccinated against

COVID-19. As per the economic status , the pandemic in the country was

considered as one of the longest, with 75 percent of the economy shut down.

Many people lost their jobs, and I had a few friends who never went back

to school. I can only hope that the government would step up its efforts even

more, because the Philippines as a whole has failed to improve on the

initiatives put in place during the outbreak.
