Logging mode overview

In the Logging mode it is possible to check the condition and the status
of both the hardware and the software.

The Logging mode allows the service engineer to do the following:

• Internal logging

“To log” basically means to read a value (over a period of time and
maybe record it on a storage medium – paper or disk). In the AK
96 dialysis machine it is possible to log three different variables at
the same time.

Logging a variable involves three steps:

• Selecting the desired display field (0, 1, or 2) where the variable

will appear

• Selecting the desired array name (SRI, SRR, SRL, etc. and index
(001, 002, etc.)

• Displaying (All three variables can be set up before displaying)

• Errors - Technical error logging. More information about Technical

errors, refer to page 5:24.

• Time: displays the actual year, month, date, day and time. The
run time of the machine (total hours the machine has run) is also
displayed here.

• Program version: displays the program version for the PROMS

associated with the respective CPU.

5:10 Maintenance support - service software description HCEN12210 Revision.05.2008

Machine to machine preset
This is a useful feature when all AK 96 dialysis machine on one clinic are
to be configurated to the same presets and the service engineer has not
access to the PC-preset software, GXP.

The principle is simple, just preset one AK 96 dialysis machine to the

correct presets and then connect it to the other monitors, one at the time,
and send the new presets to the connected monitor.

To perform this you need a special cable, a Monitor to Monitor preset

cable, K22753001.

Following conditions must be fulfilled to perform a correct duplication of

the presets:
• Same length of preset list, i.e. same program version has to be
installed on both sending and receiving machine.

• Same access code has to be used when entering service/preset-mode

on both machines.

The actual duplication

1. Connect cable K22753001 to both monitors.

2. Start both AK 96 dialysis machines.

3. Enter service/preset-mode on both machines using the same access

code.

4. Select Preset/Ext/Send on sending AK 96 dialysis machine.

5. Select Preset/Ext/Receive on receiving AK 96 dialysis machine.

Note
It is important to follow this order. Always begin with the sending
machine and then activate the receiving machine.
Note

HCEN12210 Revision.05.2008 Maintenance support - service software description 5:11

Default preset
Note
Default presetting should be treated with care. It involves erasing the
presets and replacing them with default values. And this means, of
course, that all “handmade” and individualized presets are lost.
Note

It is possible to restore all customized presets to the factory default values.

Concentrate presets
The choice of units used and representation is determined by the
information on the label of the actual concentrate container. (The values
to be input are for the concentrate, not the diluted solution)

BiCart 203 ®
Vnr: 479634
Dilutes in specially adapted dialysis machine with water of suitable
quality and mixed with solution from Gambros bicarbonate column
(sodium chlorate free bicarbonate) before use.

Electrolyte content/litre Electrolyte content/litre

Sod. chlorid. 210,7 g concentrate: dilution (1 + 34):
Pot. chlorid. 2,61 g
Calc. chlorid. dihydrate 9,00 g Na+ 3605 mmol 103 mmol
Magn. chlorid. hexahydrate 3,56 g K+ 35 mmol 1 mmol
Acid. acet. conc. 6,31 g Ca2+ 61,25 mmol 1,75 mmol
Aq. steril. ad 1000 ml Mg2+ 17,5 mmol 0,5 mmol
pH 1,5 - 3 Cl- 3797,5 mmol 108,5 mmol
CH3COO- 105 mmol 3 mmol

Lot. nr.: Manufactured by:

Anv. för.:

On the above label, mmol/l and ions are used. The benefit of using
“mmol/l” and “ion” is that the machine will calculate a “chemical
checksum” of the inputs; the result of this should be zero; if it isn’t the
machine refuses to accept the concentrate preset, and the user must step
back and check all the components in the list.

As the last component the machine will ask for H+ , hydrogen, which is
not listed on the container’s label. The rule is that the value for hydrogen
is the same as for Acetate (CH3COO-): 105 mmol/l.

Some concentrates can contain Sodium acetate (CH3COONa), and the

rule in this case is: H+ = CH3COO- - CH3COONa.

When “Select” is pressed after the last component, H+, the machine
checks the entered values. This a check on “the chemical checksum”
– if an error has been made while presetting, the machine will refuse
to accept the preset.

What if...
• The concentrate contains glucose?

- This does not affect the presetting, but it should be there from the
start; adding glucose (or anything else) to the concentrate during
the treatment will change the composition of the fluid.

• A component on the container’s label can not be found in the

AK 96 list?

- Nothing is done.

• A component in the AK 96 list can not be found on the container’s label?

- The value of the component is set to 0.0. In this way the chemical
checksum will not be disturbed.

HCEN12210 Revision.05.2008 Maintenance support - service software description 5:13

And what if...

• Chloride (Cl-) is missing on the ion/mmol/l list on a container’s label?

- The Cl- must be calculated according to following example:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NaCl: 3605 mmol/l
KCl: 70 mmol/l
MgCl2: 17.5 mmol/l
CaCl2: 61.25 mmol/l
CH3COO: 3 mmol/l
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Add the numbers of Cl- attached to Na+, K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+
to obtain total Cl-:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Na+: 3605 mmol/l
K+: 70 mmol/l
Mg2+: 17.5 (x2) mmol/l = 35 mmol/l
Ca2+: 61.25 (x2) mmol/l= 122.5 mmol/l
Sum: 3832.5 mml/l

• The machine asks for “Number of H2O” during preset with grams/liter,
molecule, and this information is missing on the container’s label?

- The “number of H2O“ is also called Crystal Water.

This means the number of water molecules attached to, e.g
Magnesiumchloride. In some cases, the information is actually
on the label:
“Magnesiumchloride hexahydrate” - this means that 6 water
molecules are attached to the MgCl2

• Only figures for diluted concentrate are shown on the container?

- The values are multiplied with the dilution ratio. i.e. if the dilution
ratio is 1+34 the values should be multiplied with 35.

Diagnostics mode - BM
• BPM: (refer to chapter 7 for more information about the BPM tests)

• Inflation test: if the inflation time is out of limits the pump is not
effective enough or the system is leaking.

• Air leakage test: if the leakage is out of limit from the cuff or
from the BPM to the cuff.

• Static pressure test: the accuracy of the pressure transducer is

checked against an external reference instrument.

• Lamps: test of the front panel LEDs - any lamp not lit is defect.

• Pumps: test the blood pump and the syringe pump.

• Art: The blood pump will run with a speed set by “Freq” (0000
– 1800)

• Syr: The syringe pump motor will start to run, as soon as this
diagnostics mode is entered.
The counter “EST-ACC” - Estimated-Accumulated - will
count “theoretical” potentiometer pulses the way they should
accumulate.
The counter “ACC” - Accumulated - counts the actual pulses
from the encoder.

• Language: All presetable languages (for the installed PROMs) are

available here.

Variable flow diagnostics
This mode can be used to test how many steps the stepping motor needs
to move to obtain a certain flow.

1. Start the AK 96 dialysis machine, enter the Service menu and select
Diagnose.

2. Place A-pickup tube in the concentrate container.

3. Wait until the fluid path turns to green instead of orange.

4. Select FM/Variable flow to initiate the test.

Following displays appears:

ADJUSTING VARIABLE DIALYSIS FLOW

Please wait XX seconds

STEPS FLOW CALIB. STEPS

XX ____ ml/min YY

• Steps: The position of the stepper motor (steps). It can be adjusted

with the Left/Right cursor keys.

• Flow: The average dialysis flow in the AK 96 dialysis machine.

• Calibr. steps: The number of steps at entrance to service/function

check according to a previous calibration.

Note
If variable flow is not installed following attention will be displayed
instead:

In Pump Diagnostics the AK 96 dialysis machine enters “normal”

treatment mode, starts the fluid part and maintains a flow. It runs with
the following set values:

• Conductivity 14 mS/cm

• Temperature 37.5°C

• Degass pressure -610 mmHg

• HPG pressure -100 mmHg

The machine uses concentrate pump A and conductivity cell A to regulate

the conductivity. When the conductivity is stabilised (for 10 seconds)
inside ±5% of the set value and the temperature is stabilised (for 10
seconds) inside ±1°C of the set value the fluid path turns to green instead
of orange. The lit fluid path always shows the bypass status.
