What changes did you have to make to your teaching style after going online?
6 responses

The ability to pivot throughout the day, learn about and implement new technology platforms to
communicate content, assess, provide timely feedback to students and make adjustments for the next
day of teaching and learning.

Participation expectations had to be adjusted. Grading is looked at differently.

I had to completely do a 180 in my teaching. Teaching students with Autism online is a huge challenge.
My students rely SO heavily on visuals and have them right there in front of them in person. I rely on
them to in order to help the students learn and have safe behaviors. That was the most challenging.

The biggest change I made was learning how to create alternative assignments for those who were
learning virtually. How could I still accomplish curriculum standards in a project based class in a virtual
learning environment?

Using online tools that allow me to see student work and give feedback at the same time

Learn how to use two monitors. Grade quicker and more often. Leave more feed back on homework
assignments.

Are there any changes you made during distance learning that you plan to implement in some
form when you go back into the classroom?
6 responses

Utilizing technology which permits teachers with opportunities to see student work throughout an entire
class as it’s being completed. The Jamboard platform provides this feature.

Some of the distance learning assignments and activities can be implemented into face to face learning.

I plan to implement using google slides to make lessons more interactive. Also keeping Jamboard (google
program)

I plan to utilize technology for assessment purposes. Technology allowed me to give immediate feedback
for students who were struggling during this time. Technology can also provide alternative assignments
for those students who have special needs.

Yes, I started using Peardeck.

I think I'll keep all worksheets virtual. Print out less paper work.

How transparent was your school's administration about information throughout the

What was your favorite thing(s) about teaching in an online setting?

6 responses

Watching students who experience challenges throughout a traditional classroom excel in a virtual setting.

Being at home. Having flexibility day to day.

Getting to really learn the students 100% and also getting to know their families. It was my favorite year so
far with my students and their families. We had a little family.

Students felt a greater sense of accomplishment. In addition, students were able to work at their own
pace. Although the virtual setting was not ideal, it put more accountability on the students which I believe
will better prepare them for life after high school.

Being at home and teaching online rather then in building.

I liked working from home.

What was your least favorite thing(s) about teaching in an online setting?
6 responses

Cameras turned off by most students. Teachers are then forced to teach to a bunch names rather than
faces. Students could log in, turn camera off and “check out” of the learning process.

I didn’t feel like students took it seriously.

Not being able to reach the students 100% in all aspects as you would in the classroom. I can tell my
students a million times to stay in their seats, have safe hands, stay on the google meet and not play
games but they can ultimately do what they want. Also parents not staying on top of the students was
tough. Because I would have done that if I were with them in person.

My least favorite thing about teaching in an online setting was the scheduling. During the fall, classes
felt too long. It was extremely hard for students to sit in front of a computer screen. Since my class is
mostly project based, having students sit and listen for 45-60 minutes a day was difficult for them and
me.

Lack of participation.

Didn't really have any.

Did your school give you and your students the tools and technology needed to

If you could go back before the pandemic and change 2-3 things to help your school implement
online learning, what would they be?
6 responses

Increase opportunities to encounter and implement new technologies, ensure that every student had a
device with the most up to date features.

Be more prepared to make adjustments

I would want my school system to be way more transparent and have the teachers actually help set up
virtual learning. I also would want to have them break it down. They threw so much at us and if they
would have just gone to basic on using google classroom and trained solely on that, people would have
been a lot more successful sooner on.

First, I would implement is more training. A lot of students fell through the crack because there was a
not a lot of training going into the virtual learning format. Second, I would make sure students had the
equipment they need to have equal learning opportunities. Many students students struggled during
COVID because they either didn’t have a functional chrome book or internet access.

More training sessions to attend in the summer that were paid.

Probably learn how to use canvas and all of its features. Learn how to use multiple monitors earlier.
