Es gibt zwei Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten für Wo-Tum-Bu 1 (eine
schlankere und eine fülligere Form), je nachdem, welche Seite
oben bzw. unten liegt. In jedem Fall sollte die Form geschlossen
und die Fassung nicht zu sehen sein.

Wechsel des Leuchtmittels
Achtung: Den Netzstecker ziehen und die Lampe vollständig
abkühlen lassen!
Öffnen Sie mit einer Hand vorsichtig den Papierbogen oder
nehmen Sie das Papier ab und wechseln Sie das alte Leucht-
mittel aus.

Pflege
Wichtig: Den Papierschirm unter keinen Umständen feucht
abwischen! Bitte nur mit einem Staubwedel, Pinsel o.ä. reinigen.
Die Metallteile können mit einem trockenen Tuch abgestaubt
werden.

Important information about the paper
The paper used in this lamp is a natural, untreated product.
Minor surface flaws are a result of the manufacturing process.
The paper shade is hand-made, by a patented process (requiring
up to eight different treatments) based on a traditional Japanese
method of textile dyeing. The results look superficially similar,
but in fact each shade is unique.
To protect the paper, the following points should be noted:
• Avoid exposure to damp: do not use the lamp in bathrooms,
kitchens or other rooms where condensation may occur.
• Avoid exposure to strong sunlight or draughts.
• Although the paper is a sensitive material, it can, if necessary,
be gently extended. 1
Do not overstretch it, otherwise it will lose its elasticity and
become unable to regain its shape.
In some cases, the shade takes some time to assume its proper
shape, as the paper has to hang and relax for a while.
Touching the surface may cause shallow dents – these can be
removed by gently pushing them out from the opposite side
with your fingers.

einem trockenen Tuch gereinigt werden – nicht mit bloßen
Händen berühren!

Instructions for assembly
When deciding where the lamp is to hang, please remember that
the maximum distance from the nearest electrical socket is 2.5 m.
Important: Wo-Tum-Bu 4 is a low-voltage lamp fitted with a
transformer and must be plugged into an electrical socket. The
lamp may be suspended from the ceiling, but do not on any
account try to connect it to the ceiling outlet!
Caution: Do not connect the lamp to the power supply until
the assembly is completed.

Assembly
Drill a 5 mm-diameter hole, insert the S5 plug provided (1) and
attach the pre-assembled ceiling fixture (2). Screw the fixture
firmly into place. 2
Fit the wire loop (3) from the end of the black mounting rod
around the ceiling fixture and thread it through the slit (4) at
the side of the fixture. 3
Unwind the suspension wire from the plastic spool. To adjust
the height of the lamp, loosen the wire clamped to the mounting
rod by pushing the black sleeve (5) upwards. Move the lamp to
the required position and re-fasten the wire with the sleeve. 4
When you have finally determined the exact position of the
lamp, push the loose end-cap up to about 5 cm below the out-
let in the mounting rod and crimp the cap onto the wire with
a pair of flat pliers or similar tool. This prevents the wire from
slipping back into the outlet. Trim off any excess wire.

Inserting the bulb
Caution: Do not touch the bulb or the inner surface of the glass
reflector with your bare hands. The lamp may not be operated
without the glass reflector – otherwise there is a serious risk of
fire.
Remove the transport safeguard (cardboard strip) below the
glass reflector. Hold the socket from above with one hand and
use your free hand to reach through the wire cage from below
and insert the bulb supplied. 5
Ensure that the bulb is securely in position.

Attaching the paper shade
Carefully remove the rolled-up shade from the packaging. The
paper has two polycarbonate reinforcing rings with holes in the
centre. Attach one end of the shade, with the reinforcement at
the top, to the small hook on the mounting rod. 6
Grasp the reinforcement at the other end of the shade, pull it
gently downwards and attach it to the lower hook on the
mounting rod. 7
Important: Always ensure that the paper shade is properly
hooked in position. Never allow the paper to touch the socket
or bulb.
Please do not fold the ends of the shade inwards. Both ends
should be freely visible, as shown in figure 8 .

Connecting the transformer
Unwind the lamp cable and pull it out straight to ensure an
attractive appearance. Plug the two connectors into the sockets
on the transformer. Ensure that the connectors are securely in
position.
Important: Please ensure that the transformer rests squarely
on the floor and that the lamp cable is not taut. The cable is an
important design element. It should appear to rise up from the
floor in a loose curve.

Changing the light bulb
Caution: Unplug the lamp from the power supply and allow it
to cool down completely. Only the bulb need be changed: the
matt-finished reflector (specially made by Ingo Maurer GmbH) is
fully reusable. Do not touch the new bulb or the inner surface
of the reflector with your bare hands.
Unhook the paper shade at both ends and remove it. Hold the
socket from above with one hand and use your free hand to
reach through the wire cage from below and remove the spent
bulb. 5
If the bulb is wedged very tightly in the socket, it can be
loosened by applying gentle pressure at the sides underneath
the reflector. 9
Insert the replacement bulb and hook the paper shade back
onto the mounting rod.

Cleaning
