UL Subject 2775 Test Summary Electrical Units

TEST DESCRIPTION STATUS

CLASS B Fire Tests Tests are run on all unit sizes in various configurations – Completed successfully.
min height, max height, units in series, small telltale fires,
large volume fires (heptane pan fires in 100m3 chamber).

Large scale fires must be extinguished 3 times

consecutively. Units must also meet criteria for discharge
time and % discharged.
Distribution Maximum number of multiple units tested at maximum Completed successfully
Verification height and maximum area coverage with representative
worst-case installation locations. Units must also meet
criteria for discharge time and % discharged.
CLASS A Fire Tests Tests are run on two materials – Class A Plastic Sheets Class A Plastics completed
(3.5 minute pre-burn with obstructions) and Class A Wood successfully. Total of 9 tests on
Crib (two-minute pre-burn with obstruction and shielded) 3 different plastic materials.
to simulate Class a surface fire. Class A Wood Cribs completed
successfully.
Fires must be extinguished 3 times consecutively (3 times
2 class A wood cribs shielded) and (3 times with each of
three types of plastic sheets). Units must also meet
criteria for discharge time and % discharged.
Examination of Compliance with drawings Completed successfully
Samples
30-day elevated Conditioned at 54°C for 30 days - then discharged. Units Completed successfully
temp. must meet criteria for discharge time and % discharged.
Salt Spray Corrosion 30-day exposure in 20% salt spray fog at 33.3°C – 36.1°C Completed successfully
- then discharged. Units must meet criteria for discharge
time and % discharged.
High Humidity Two samples of each size conditioned at 55°C and 93-97% Completed successfully
Exposure relative humidity for 30 days - then discharged. Units
must meet criteria for discharge time and % discharged.
Shock & Vibration 5000 shock impacts each of 10g for 25 milliseconds, Completed successfully
vibration at 10-60 hertz at 2 hertz intervals for 5 minutes
- then discharged. Units must meet criteria for discharge
time and % discharged.
500 Cycle 500 initiating devices activated in succession without Completed successfully
failure. Tested at variable voltage and current,
temperature cycled, etc.
UL 864 Jarring While electrically connected and subject to supervisory Completed successfully
current units are struck horizontally and vertically by
metal ball and cannot spark or show any electrical
disturbance.
UL 864 Dielectric With leads shunted units cannot discharge when subjected Completed successfully
to 500Vac or 707Vdc through the generator body for 1
minute.
UL 864 Variable Tested in series and parallel at 65% of rated voltage. All Completed successfully
Voltage units must activate as intended.
Explosive Units activated in an explosive atmosphere (4% propane Completed successfully
Atmosphere stochiometric mix). Units must discharge without causing
explosion. Units must meet criteria for discharge time and
% discharged.
Fire Exposure Units mounted 3 feet above large scale heptane fire and
exposed to fire for 1 minute then discharged. . Units must
meet criteria for discharge time and % discharged.
Temperature Cycling 24 hours at -40°C, 24 hours at +54°C, 10 cycles at each Completed successfully
limit (20 days) – 24 hours at 21°C then discharged. Units
must meet criteria for discharge time and % discharged.
Hydrogen Sulfide 1% hydrogen sulfide atmosphere for 10 days - then Completed successfully
Atmosphere discharged. Units must meet criteria for discharge time
and % discharged.
Hydrogen 1% hydrogen sulfide & 1% CO2 atmosphere for 10 days - Completed successfully
Sulfide/CO2 then discharged. Units must meet criteria for discharge
Atmosphere time and % discharged.
Accelerated Aging Conditioned at 80°C for 5 months to simulate 10-year life. Completed successfully
Units must meet criteria for discharge time and %
discharged. – then discharged.
Rough Usage Drop and Function test on largest and smallest units. Units Completed successfully
Are dropped twice (vertical and horizontal) from a height
of 3 feet onto concrete and then discharged. Units must
meet criteria for discharge time and % discharged.
Temperature Monitor exit and body temperatures for all models. Units Completed successfully
must meet criteria for discharge time and % discharged.
Discharge Time/ 9 units of each size are to be discharged (3 conditioned at Completed successfully
Percent Discharged -40°C, 3 at +54°C, and 3 at +21°C). The time of
discharge and percent discharged is to be recorded. Units
must meet criteria for discharge time and % discharged.
