Collision Avoidance System (CAS)
System Operation
The Collision Avoidance System (CAS) was developed to prevent injury
and possible loss of life from the operation of mining vehicles in the
proximity of mining personnel.
All vehicles, large and small, can be easily fitted with a CAS Receiver.
For larger vehicles Digital POD Antennae (DPOD’s) are utilised to extend
coverage.
CAS Receivers will detect all variants of Becker RFID active tags
including Vehicle Tags, Cap-Lamp Tags and Personal Standalone Tags.
Once detected, the CAS will alert the driver via both audible and visual
alarms.

User-Friendly Equipment
Vehicle or Miner?
CAS distinguishes between different types of Tags and can advise the
driver of the presence of Miners or Vehicles. A CAS Variant can indicate the
direction of the detected Tag.
+ Information
Self Testing
CAS has significant self testing capabilities to provide confidence to the
driver and reliability for the mine. Special tags, known as Control Tags can
also be installed in locations to force the CAS to perform an additional Self
Test.
+ Reliability
Tag Types
There are four (4) main types of Tags including Vehicle Tags, Cap-Lamp
Tags, Standalone Tags and Control Tags. This provides flexibility in covering
people and assets.
+ Flexibility
Large and Small Vehicles
As mining vehicles vary in size from small to very large, CAS provides
flexibility in the antenna configurations. Smaller vehicles can make use of
a simple antenna connected directly the CAS Receiver. Large vehicles ho-
wever need multiple antennae to ensure all sides have adequate detection
zones. Digital POD Antennas (DPOD’s) provide the solution.
+ Accuracy
Self Learning
It is simple to program CAS to learn tags (vehicles, personnel or all) in clo-
se proximity and not alert the driver to those tags. Presenting the Ibutton
(shown) to the CAS Receiver will program the Tags in the CAS memory. This
allows drivers and other authorised tags to be excluded from detection.
+ Intelligent
Installation
CAS is easily installed in any vehicle. Smaller vehicles can be fitted in as little
as 2-3 hours, while very large vehicles typically require a shift (12 hours) to
install. CAS Receivers are mounted in the cabin in a location that does not
interfere with the operator. CAS Antennae and DPOD’s are mounted in
locations that provide ideal coverage points while affording protection from the
environment. A CAS variant has a separate display head, which can be
remotely mounted from the receiver. CAS will work with either 12 or 24 VDC.
