COMMUNITY SERVICE
INTRODUCTION:
Community service is a term used to describe the act of volunteering one's self in
order to provide services and help for the benefit community. Community service can be
provided as cleaning roadways, helping homeless, or even organizing charitable events. It
is a vital part of many small communities. Getting involved in your community makes it
healthier and livelier, and organizations around the world support community service
activities.
OBJECTIVES:
 Create memorable life experiences.
 Open doors to opportunities in your career.
 Boost your psychological and physical well-being.

COMMUNITY SERVICE IDEAS

Here some of the community service ideas that your Parish Youth Ministry or
Vicariate Youth Ministry can conduct during the AYD COMMUNITY SERVICE 2021.
It may vary depending on your Parish Youth Ministry or Vicariate Youth Ministry
setting. This is in lined with the Spirit of Communio or Pananabangan the three T’s
(Treasure, Talent and Time).
A. Organize youth volunteers to help clean or pick up trash in your
chapel / parish /convent. (SANCTITY)
The importance of the cleanliness of chapel/parish has a close and integral link
to its sanctity. Throughout the revelation of the Old Testament there is clear and definite
emphasis placed upon the holiness of God, and of the place where He dwells in the midst
of His gathered people in both the Tabernacle and later the Temple.

B. Organize tree planting projects in your community. (LAUDATO SI)
Tree planting is recognized as one of the most engaging, environmentally
friendly activities that people can take part in to better the planet. Trees provide a
multitude of benefits, both long and short term. As well as being attractive
aesthetically, they remove and store carbon from the atmosphere, slow heavy rain
and so reduce the risk of flooding, enhance air quality and improve the urban heat
island effect by reflecting sunlight and providing shade. In addition, the physical
weight of a tree consists of approximately 50% carbon, as such trees have a strong
climate change mitigation effect when in high enough numbers. Some of these
benefits such as the mitigation of the urban heat island effect and improvements to
air quality are localized and will bring the most benefits to the people who live and
otherwise spend their time in the local area. Other benefits such as the removal of

carbon from the atmosphere will benefit the wider population, not just those who
live the most locally.

SCRIPTURAL READING: MARK 4:30-32

C. Collect food donations for the homeless or indigent. (SEVEN

CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY)
Hunger is a serious human need. It is crucial to eat each day and to have a
well-balanced diet in order to grow normally, have energy and enjoy overall good
health. To go without a meal or food for a day leads to hunger pains and
weakness; going without sufficient food for longer periods leads to deficiency
disease; and going without food for the long term leads to starvation and
ultimately death. Jesus himself fed the hungry.

SCRIPTURAL READING: MATTHEW 14:13-21

SEND OFF PRAYER

I BELIEVE IN STEWARDSHIP
I believe in the God of love,
the owner of everything who possesses everyone.
I believe in the God of mercies who has chosen me
to be a steward of Mother Nature and Mother Church,
in spite of who I am and what I have done,
and in spite of the infidelities He knows I will still commit.

I believe in the power of giving

and in the power of loving like Jesus;
because love is the only way to holiness;
giving is the best proof of loving;
and perfect renunciation leads to unlimited fruitfulness.

I believe that in freely giving my time,

in humbly sharing my talents,
and in generously sacrificing my treasures,
the Lord will always provide.
He will take care of all my needs,
and bless me with infinite reward on earth and in heaven.

I will be the first to give.

I will not wait for the others.
I will keep on giving even if others do not give.
I will not be afraid to have none.

I believe that the best time to share is now, not tomorrow,

for tomorrow is an excuse of the greedy.

I will keep my needs and wants simple and few,

for I believe that in reducing my selfishness,

I will grow in happiness and holiness.

I am a steward of the Lord.

I will return all these to Him with abundant yield!
Much is asked of me because much has been given to me
I praise the Lord for His kindness to me
Now and forever.
Amen.
