Revolution in Mind: The Creation of Psychoanalysis

Topic/Lesson

1. Difficult Concepts (What concepts did you find difficult to understand?)

i. The first concept that I find difficult to understand is the arguments between different groups
involving the foundation of psychoanalysis
ii. The connection of the study of sexology in psychoanalysis
iii. The creation of the first model of psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud

2. Insights (What new insights or learnings did you gain in discussion/ activity?)

i. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought

There are no conflict concerning Freudian Theory.

However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize

As the author stated, there are groups of people who believed that Freud had never come up
with an original idea, that he was basically a plagiarist. But as I read the article up to the end,
the way the author shows strong facts and evidence, I believed that Freudian theory is the
roots that has become the tree that branches different groups/communities (e.g London,
Berlin, Budapest, and Vienna) that have different views concerning psychoanalysis. There
also comes a time in the past that Sigmund Freud stated himself that his finding was just a
theory and can be taken not too seriously. This statement erupted chaos because that time
there was more than one person believes in him, but the one they believe even changed his
mind.

ii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought

That the study of sexology cannot be related in psychoanalysis

However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize

By stating that hysterics or people suffering with hysteria (a person who experiences physical
symptoms that is caused by psychological factors) dreams of things that perverts do, I
realized that it can be really related in the field of psychoanalysis because studying the act of
perversion can give a view into the unconscious which can link to psychosexuality that
answers connection between reasoning and passion, mind and body, the human and the
animal which is essential in the field of psychology.
iii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought
There is no issue pertaining psychoanalysis

However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize

By reading the different views and studies of different groups concerning psychoanalysis, I
realize that analyzing psychology is a wide area that cannot be studied by just reading one
article. You should read its history, have an intensive comparison on different views. As I
read the article, I also realize that if you want to prove an uncertain thing you should give a
lot of time researching to prove your statements. Like the author of the article did in
defending the Freudian theory, he gives facts about Freudian theory but also those groups that
is against him. And by giving facts about the condraticting groups, you should also search for
strong facts that can debunk their claim.

3. Questions (What questions would you want answers for? Or vague areas you want more
explanations about?
i. Do researchers and scientist in present time have an approved method in analyzing
psychology?
ii. Do you believe in Freudian theory? Or are you one with the groups that says Sigmund
Freud had never come up with an original idea in his life?
iii. As a professional in your respective field, what method do you prefer in analyzing?
