RDSO TRAINING
(Dated:-19/07/2021 to 22/07/2021)

SUBMITTED BY:-

VDG SECTION
VDG section of RDSO mainly deals with the design and development of
railway carriage system which deals with dynamic forces. VDG section
deals the optimization of suspension parameters for all types of rolling
stocks using vehicle dynamics simulation software NUCARS and ADMS
RAIL.

Process for implementation of new rolling stock in Indian railways:-

Railway sections of Indian railway are mainly divided into two parts main
line and Rajdhani line. For introduction of new rolling stocks first of all the
various specifications and data of new rolling stock is verified with existing
railway infrastructure which involves railway platform measurements of the
path in which that rolling stock is introduced. Than running trials are
conducted in the section , during the trial various data are recorded using
sensors and transducers fitted in coach during rolling stock trails and these
data’s are than evaluated in VDG section using simulation softwares to
study the dynamics forces arises during running. After detailed analysis
these data are than used to set the speed of rolling stock in the specified
section.first main line trials are conducted than if it is successful the
rajdhani trials are conducted in the given section.
The speed which is sanction by CRS is mainly 10% less than the speed at
which actual trial is conducted.
Than after final approval of CRS and railway board the new rolling stock is
introduced in the Indian railway.

AIR SPRING:-

Working Principle:- The fundamental principle of air spring is that a mass

of air in predefined rubber bellow under pressure exerts a force and
functions as suspension element.
The dynamic forces are catered through the result of changes in internal
pressure and air spring effective area according to height variations. When
load is added or removed, a leveling valve operates to add or remove
sufficient air in the air spring to maintain the set height of air spring.
Benefits of Air Spring:-

 Maintain constant floor height

 Superior ride quality
 Maintenance free
 Less no. of failures as compared to helical spring
 Load proportionate stiffness
 Improvement in ride index and acceleration in loaded and empty
conditions
 Reduction in no. of variants- presently 3 types are cater for all type of
coaches.

E & S SECTION
E & S section mainly deals with the braking system of rolling stocks. It
involves design and development of Electro-Pneumatic brake unit for 3-
phase MEMU and DEMU coaches and Regenerative braking for various
rolling stocks and it also deals with the twin pipe air braking for LHB
coaches.
The various sub-assemblies of EP brakes unit are as follows:-
 Application magnet valve
 Holding magnet valve
 Safety valve type AKL
 Pressure limiting valve
 Triple valve
 Stabilizing valve
 Check valve
 Valve bracket
