Materials

The materials that are commonly used for precision

and slotted shims are aluminium, rust-resistant
stainless steel, cold-rolled steel strip, brass, and
laminated plastic (PET). The materials are divided
into two categories: those for solid sheet and those
for laminates.

In addition to the commonly used standard

materials listed above, there are a number of
special materials that can be used and processed
upon request.

Materials for solid shims

Solid individual shims can be processed in
thicknesses between 0.05 mm to 20 mm. Our
standard shims’ material specifications can be found
in the following table. If you require other materials,

Laminates
The individual layers of laminates are available in
even lower thicknesses for solid individual shims.
Solid shim foil thicknesses begin at 0.025 mm. In
addition to metallic materials, layered precision shims
are available in lighter laminated plastic that is easier
to peel. Laminated shim stock can also be delivered
in a condition that is compliant with the relevant
standard for aerospace technology: LN-29557 (AMS-
DTL-22499).
