MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
ITEM DESCRIPTION SPECIFICATIONS REMARKS
1 Ready-Mix a. Ready-mixed concrete shall be produced in accordance with ASTM C94.
Concrete b. For every 50 cubic meter or fraction thereof of concrete poured, 1 set of 8 cylinder samples shall
be taken and cured. Test two (2) cylinders at 7 days, two (2) at 14 days, two (2) at 28 days, and two
(2) sample as spare.
Cement
a. ASTM C 150 provides the following types of cement to be used as required.
(i) Type I - General Purpose Cement for use when its normal heat of hydration is not a problem and
where the concrete is subject to negligible sulfate quantities in soil or water.
(ii) Type II - Moderate Sulfate Resistance Cement for use in structures where moderate heat of
hydration is desired and are exposed to soils or water that test in moderate sulfate exposure ranged
based on ACI 318-08M Building Code Requirements and ASTM C452 Sulfate Resistance Test Method. `
Standard composition requirements prescribed in Table 1 of ASTM C150 should be observed where it
states that tyoe II cannot exceed a maximum of 8% of tricalcium aluminate (C 3A).
(iii) Type V - High Sulfate Resistance Cement for use when concrete is exposed to severe sulfate
condition based on ACI 318-08M Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete Chapter 4:
Durability Requirements and ASTM C452 Sulfate Resistance Test Method.

Reinforcement a. All reinforcing bars shall be deformed conforming to ASTM A706.

b. The minimum yield strength of reinforcement to be used corresponding to the structural member
shall be as enumerated below:
(i) Footings fy=60,000psi (414MPa)
(ii) Columns, Beams (10mm and larger) fy = 60,000psi (414MPa)
(iii) Slabs (10mm and larger) fy = 60,000psi (414MPa)
(iv) Lintels, stiffeners, Slab on Grade,
masonry, and other minor structures fy = 40,000psi (276MPa)
c. Mechanical Reinforcing Bar Connectors: ACI 301. Provide 125% minimum yield strength of the
reinforcement bar.
d. Welded Wire Fabric: ASTM A 185 or ASTM A 497
e. Wire: ASTM A 83 or ASTM A 496
2 Concrete Block
a. Paver blocks shall be wavy full body colour red with dimensions of 105 mm x 230mm x 80 mm and
works
shall comply with the following specifications:
(i) Percentage Water Absorption Ave. not over 6%
(ii) Compressive Strength Not less than 3,500psi
(iii) Average wear in thickness - abrasion Ave. wear not more than 2mm
(iv) Tolerance in size (Length + Breadth) +/- 2mm
(v) Thickness of wearing layer Not less than 5mm
(vi) Tolerance in Thickness of Block +/-5mm
(vii) Colors Wear resistant aggregates colour coordinated
aggregates in face mix

3 Structural Steel
a. Carbon Steel and High Strength Low-Alloy Steel. Provide steel shapes, plates and bars of structural
quality, sizes and types noted on drawings for use in welded and bolted construction. Steel manufactured
by the acid Bessemer process shall not be used for structural purposes. Steel, which in the opinion of the
inspector is badly corroded or physically damaged, shall not be incorporated in the work.
b. Coating. Provide steel unprimed where steel is to be fireproofed. Metal Shop Finish for required primer
and painting of non-proofed steel
c. Standard Fasteners. Low-carbon steel externally and internally threaded fasteners conforming to
requirements of ASTM A307, Grade A. Provide hexagonal heads and nuts for all connections. Include lock
washers under nuts or self-locking units.
d. High-strength Fasteners. Quenched and tempered steel bolts and nuts conforming to requirements of
ASTM A325 or ASTM A490
i. Provide heavy hexaginal head bolts and nuts. and hardened steel washers.
ii. Load indicator washers conforming to ASTM F959 or tension control bolts shall be used.
iii. Any proposed substitutions must have documentation submitted for review and approval of the
structural engineer prior to construction.
iv. Acceptable tension control bolt suppliers shall be Lejuene Bolt Compant/Lakeview, Minn. And Bristol
Industries/Brea, Calif.
e. Welded Electodes.
i. For base metal conforming with STM A36, A53, and A500, shielded metal arc, flux-cored arc and
submerged arc welding use E70XX, E7XT-X, and F7X-EXXX electrodes in accordance with AWS A5.1, AWS
a5.20, AWS A5.20 or AWS 23.
