Objectives
At the end of this lesson, the learner should be able to:
1. Compare Pinpeat and Piphat;
2. Identify he instruments in a Pinpeat ensemble; and
3. Illustrate important instruments in Pinpeat ensemble.

Procedure/ Discussion

Cambodian Pinpeat
(See pages 16-20)

Pinpeat is the most prominent ensemble music in Cambodia. The name was derived from two instruments: Pin, a
strummed string instrument, and Peat, a half moon shaped instrument with eight or nine gongs.
Pinpeat music is mostly stable in rhythm, with fast and slow music not being dramatically different in tempo.

Lesson3- Sculptures of Southeast Asia

Southeast Asian sculptures are heavily influenced by the people’s beliefs and religion. Many ancient sculptures are
religious beliefs and teachings, while others tell of a people’s proud heritage.

 Borobudur Temple in Indonesia- is one of the largest Buddhist temples in the world and also one of the
most spectacular monuments ever built. Thousands of relief panels, statues, and decorative reliefs that tell
of Buddhist teachings and scriptures can be found in Borobudur.
Life of Buddha- Lalitavistara tells a story of Buddha in five parts.

 Malaysian Woodcarvings
Woodcarving is part of the architecture of a traditional Malay house and mosque.
Woodcarvers consider four factors in the composition of their carvings.

 Singapore’s Merlion
Merlion, a mythical creature that is half-lion and half-fish, is the national symbol of Singapore. It signifies
courage, strength, hardwork, and simplicity- qualities the Singaporean people are known for.

 Cambodia’s Angkor Wat


This art medium has become on of the country’s most cherished art forms.

Arts is a way of expressing the author’s imaginative and conceptual ideas intended to be appreciated for their beauty.
Its elements are color, form, line, shape, space, texture, and value. The principles of art, however, are the rhythm, harmony,
balance, contrast, movement, pattern, proportion, and variety.

A short –term goal is a plan that requires a limited amount of time.

Identity crisis- happens when a person feels unsure of his or her role in life. It may last for a long period of time. It
may have negative effects on people experiencing it. They may avoid interacting with people and may feel afraid to
express themselves.

Peer influence- When you peers begin to influence how you act and feel, and to force you to change, it is called
peer pressure.

Teenagers may develop crushes. These crushes are people whom a person develops an attraction to. When
these relationships get deeper, a special bond may form. When attraction is mutual, two people may agree
to enter into a romantic relationship.

Premarital Sex and Abortion


Some relationships tend to be more “sexual.” When two people become very initimate, they might be
tempted to have sexual intercourse.

Premarital sex is defined as sexual intercourse before marriage.

Abortion is a procedure wherein the child of a pregnant woman is forcibly removed using various
techniques.
The first thing to do when you enter a relationship is to set sexual boundaries. Tell your partner your
limitations. If he or she does not respect the boundaries you have set, it is not wise to continue the
relationship.
