Pasta
1. Pasta is one of the most popular foods in the world. The Chinese ate a type of pasta
called noodles 3000 years ago. The Italian explorer, Marco Polo, introduced noodles to
Europe in the thirteenth century. Pasta is now an essential part of Italian culture. Each
Italian eats an average of 28 kilograms of pasta a year. And it is equally popular in a lot of
other countries. It´s tasty, it´s filling, and it´s quick and easy to make.
2. Did you know that there are more than 350 different kinds of pasta shapes? You can
buy pasta in almost any shape you can imagine. A lot of children even learn to write their
first words with a plate of alphabet pasta! And you can serve it with all kinds of sauces: a
spicy tomato sauce with a few olives, or a creamy sauce with cheese. Some people eat it
with chocolate!
3. My favourite pasta sauce? It´s very simple – olive oil, some black pepper and a little
fresh Parmesan cheese, but not too much. And to make perfect pasta? Well, it depends
on what kind of pasta you´re cooking. It doesn´t take much time at all – around seven or
eight minutes is usually the ideal cooking time. Make sure that you have lots of water and

that it is boiling when you add the pasta. Taste it before you serve it to make sure that it is
al dente (still a little hard in the middle). You can´t go wrong!
