Kongsberg Defence Systems, through its Naval Systems & Surveillance division, has
been awarded a USD55.5 million contract by South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo
Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for the supply of MSI-90U Mk 2 submarine
command and fire control system components for three new DSME-built submarines.

While the company has made no comment on the end user, IHS Jane's understands
that the equipment is destined for three modified Type 209 submarines ordered from
DSME by Indonesia in December 2011.

The deal further embeds Kongsberg's relationship with both DSME and the Indonesian
Navy. The company was in January 2010 contracted by DSME for upgrade of the
Indonesian Navy Type 209 submarine KRI Nanggala ; this fit, replacing the legacy
Signaal SINBADS weapon control system, has introduced two multifunction common
consoles and a TBI 110A torpedo board interface.
