Warm-up and Objective Discussion
- Show the students some pictures related to travelling and airports. Ask them to name what
the pictures represent. Make a vocabulary list with the words they say.
- Share a silly story of you being lost somewhere.
- Explain that, for today's lesson, we are going to see a clip from a comedy show of two
characters being lost in an airport. Emphasize that, while the video might make for a
challenging listening material at first, they're already familiar with most of the vocabulary in
it, which should make things a lot easier.
- Explain that, by the end of today's lesson, students will have provided a short summary of
the video and analyzed some of the language forms and vocabulary in it.

Estimated time: 10 minutes.

Instruct and Model
❑ R ❑ W ❑ L ❑ S
Instruction I:
- Explain to the students that the first thing they should try to do is understand the general
context of the video.
- To do that, it helps if they look for keywords that they're already familiar with.
- The characters' body language, facial expressions, and other visual elements might also
provide them with hints as to what's going on.
- They can take notes to help them keep track of what's going on.

Estimated time: 5 minutes.

Model I:
- Play the first minute of the video (up to the moment in which Mitch and Cam leave the
airplane).
- Pause, and discuss the scene with the students, pointing out visual elements and words that
might help understand the context.
- Provide the students with a brief summary of what happened in the scene.

Estimated time: 5 minutes.

Proceed to Guided Practice I

Instruction II:
- Explain to the students that, for this section, we are going to focus on specific words and
language forms. They should already be familiar with the concept of intensive listening, so
there's no need to spend too much time here.

Estimated time: 2-5 minutes.

Model II:
- Replay the first minute of the video, pausing every once in a while to invite the students to
repeat something that was just said.

Estimated time: 3-5 minutes.

Proceed to Guided Practice II.

Guided Practice
❑ R ❑ W ❑ L ❑ S
Guided Practice I:
- Play the video up to minute 2:34, asking the students to pay attention to the cues you
discussed earlier in order to understand the context.
- Elicit a summary of the events in the video from the students.
- Replay the video, pausing as needed to discuss with the whole class the cues they were able
to spot in order to understand the context.

Estimated time: 5-10 minutes.

Proceed to Instruction II.

Guided Practice II:

- Ask the students to sit in pairs.
- Hand out (or write it down on the board) a cloze exercise list comprising the same section of
the video that was used for Guided Practice I.
- Play that section of the scene a couple of times, to give the students a chance to fill the list.
- Walk around the classroom correcting their answers and providing help when needed.

Estimated time: 5-10 minutes.

Independent Practice
❑ R ❑ W ❑ L ❑ S
Independent Practice I:
- Explain to the students that you'll play the entire scene and that for this activity they should
just focus on the bigger picture of what's actually going on.
- After playing the scene, ask the pairs to discuss it between themselves.
- Walk around the classroom while they discuss, providing feedback when possible.
Estimated time: 10 minutes.

Independent Practice II:

- Hand out the second cloze list.
- Play the second half of the video, pausing it every once in a while to ask one of the pairs to
discuss what's happening.
- Replay the video, without pausing, to give the students another shot to fill the cloze
exercises.
- Go over the answers afterwards.

Estimated time: 10 minutes.

Assessment
❑ R ❑ W ❑ L ❑ S
Assessment I (Homework):
- At home, students will watch, with no subtitles, the entire episode from which today's video
was taken, and write a brief outline of the plot based on what they understood.

Assessment II (Homework):
- Students will fill the list of cloze exercises for the entire episode.
