ORANGISH
THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF VNHS-SHS

In order to keep VNHS abreast of the latest happenings in the community, the Senior
High School Department published its first ever issue of The Orangish last November 2021.
The Orangish aims to provide information about current events and on issues of social,
cultural, and educational importance through news, editorials, and feature articles. This also
provides a platform for the VNHS teachers and students to express their ideas and creativity.
Moreover, it serves an instrument in shaping both the writer and the reader’s perspective,
opinion, and identity.
Its debut issue highlighted stories which tell us how this pandemic has reinvented our
educational system and how it might change our thinking and our actions, reiterating the
paramount importance of journalism in this unprecedented global health crisis.
News gathering started ever since before the opening of the school year. Throughout the
first few months, writers had collected ideas, stories and photos about students, teachers, events–
anything positive that had been happening at school and in the community. The editor-in-chief
assigned teacher roles as reporters, photographers, editors, image editors, and each had
researched different topics, including athletics, academics, activities, school calendar, student
life, scholarships/counseling office, heads up on big events, and announcements of student
achievements.
In September, drafts and raw outputs were then submitted to the editors for polishing.
Lead editors then convened for the dummy making and brainstormed on the final theme and
newsletter design. The most taxing part, which was the lay-outing, took place on the first week
of October and had its completion on the second week of November.
Proofreading and paper consultation were done in three consecutive days by the school’s
seasoned school paper advisers namely Lyland B. Alda and Isobel Perrigie Jebelem
Campomanes. Printing and publishing phase were completed within a week.
The official launching took place last November 25, 2021 at the School-based
Management (SBM) Room. Dr. Wilfredo Miasoc, Education Program Supervisor, graced the
said event. School Principals, Dr. Paloma, Dr. Euldan and Dr. Curayag also expressed their
congratulatory messages to the staff of The Orangish. The newsletter also launched its presence
online through www.orangishpub.com.
Distribution of copies was scheduled on the first week of December through the
classroom advisers. A total of 1,500 copies were distributed among our senior high school
students and teachers.
