Community Activity Worker


KNH is seeking a self motivated, high energy, compassionate individual with experience working with a multi-
barriered population to plan activities for tenants at Steeves Manor, a large BC Housing facility with over 200
tenants.

Working collaboratively and under the general direction of the Community Programmer, the Community Activity
Worker plays a leadership role in planning and organizing tenant activities. The Activity Worker works to
engage tenants and in activities and initiatives that support their needs using a strength based participant
directed model of service delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To work as part of a team to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all tenants
• Plan, organize and oversee activities, special events and celebrations
• Plan and accompany tenants on out-trips and shopping trips
• Set up furniture and equipment for activities as required; maintain an inventory of equipment and
supplies related to activities
• Promote, encourage and facilitate tenants to take part in activities; provide feedback regarding the
progress and performance
• Create posters/flyers as required
• Complete and maintain records and documentation as required
o Monthly Activity Calendar
o States & Fee Collection
o Provide monthly reports
o Volunteer log of hours
o Attendance Sheets
• Provide support to volunteers as required
• Attend all scheduled staff meetings

Qualifications and Skills Required:


• One year’s recent experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Successful experience working with vulnerable, low-income adults and seniors who may also be living
with a physical disability and/or mental health challenge
• Experience with program planning, development and delivery
• Experience working with volunteers
• Excellent communication skills both written and oral
• Strong conflict resolution skills
• Ability to set up healthy boundaries and work as a team
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Internet & Publisher
• Class 4 driver’s license preferred and/or willingness to obtain one
• Attitudes and values which are compatible with the goals and philosophy of Kitsilano Neighbourhood
House

Job Details:
Salary: $15.07 - $16.78 per hour
Schedule: 10 hours per week, some evenings and weekends
Location: 3rd and Wallace St. Vancouver
Expected Start Date: ASAP
