September 4, IA4l - December |0, 1967 eOtis Redding was a very --(adjective).-. and important musician. He was
born in I94l in the state of Georgia, the ---(noun)___ State! From an
early age, Otis sang in church choir and learned to play guitar and piano
by himself. That must've been -(adjective)_! One day, Otis was driving
a (adjective) musician named Johnny Jenkins to a recording session. The
session did not go well. “_.(exclamation)_-!" Johnny yelled, as he
stormed out of the studio, —(verb)-ing-.. on his way out. Otis was lucky,
because Johnny had left, the studio manager let him record two songs!
The studio manager, Jim Stewart of Stax Records, had an “open door
policy”. This means that anyone - white, black, or _(color)__ - could
come into the studio and share their talents! Otis's two songs were very
well received by the public. People were tapping their __(body part)__
and snapping along to his songs. Otis got so famous that he was asked to
perform at the very --(adjective).. theatre, The Apollo in New York
When he first started performing, he was not paid very much - only
$400/week. Hardly even enough to buy a ~-(noun)__! He actually lost
money at first because he had to pay his band $450/week. After his
--(adjective)_.. performance at the Apollo, he went back into the studio
to record his next hit: “Try a Little Tenderness”. The public loved this
song more than (noun)... - it was hit!
Otis also wrote the very famous song “Respect” and performed it
originally. Otis Redding, unlike other black musicians at the time, was
fortunate enough to be compensated fairly for his work. At the height
of his career, he would make $35,000 per week in concerts, and more
than $I million in royalties and performances. That could buy a lot of
--(plural noun)__! At one point, it was said that he owned 200
(adjective) suits and 400 pairs of (adjective) shoes. You would need a
lot of space in you --(kind of room in house)-. to fit thosel
Sadly, Otis Redding passed away in a plane crash at the age 26. His
impact is still felt today, and his body of work is celebrated. His most
famous song, “(Sittin’ on the) Dock of the Bay” was released after his
death and went to be a #l hit on the Billboard charts. He is featured on
the Rolling Stone's magazine's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and
received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Otis Redding is
remembered today as a prominent soul performer, and his legacy
continues to this day.Word Search Puzzle
