1 Introduction
AmosConnect Crew allows seafarers a cost effective communications channel to their friends and
relatives in over 400 GSM mobile network operators globally via SMS or E-mail. AmosConnect Crew may
be installed on existing computers onboard and interface with the ship’s existing communications
devices in order to allow the transport of SMS or E-mail to and from the ship. At the same time,
AmosConnect Crew allows the vessels to simplify their crewmail administration without additional
investments in time, effort or equipment.

2 Installing the software

2.1 Configuring Your AmosConnect Mailbox as a default mail handler

In order for the AmosConnect Crew system to work properly, AMOS must be set as the default mail
client of the PC. To do this:
 Open the Control Panel
 Click the Internet Options icon
 Click the Programs tab. In the email field, choose AMOS
 Click the Accept button, the click OK.

2.2 Setting File/Folder Security Permissions for AmosConnect Crew

Windows XP:

In the PC where AmosConnect Crew (both Ship Server and Client GUI) is installed, open the Windows
Explorer. Click on ‘Tools’ -> ‘Folder Options’:

The following screen will be displayed: Click the ‘View’ tab. Under the ‘Advanced Settings’, uncheck the
box across the line ‘Use simple file sharing’. Click ‘OK’:

2.3 Installing AmosConnect Crew Ship Server

 Insert the AmosConnect installer CD in your PC’s CD Drive:

  Click on the folder ‘3. Amos Connect Crew 5.0.2.6’:
 Click on the Crew Server installer:

Click on ‘Next’

The following screen shall appear:

Click on ‘Next’

Make sure these two options are selected:

Click on ‘Install’:

After this process completes, the Ship Server Configuration Wizard shall run automatically. Please refer
to the next section:

2.4 Configuring the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server

The Configuration Wizard runs automatically during the installation of the AmosConnect Crew Ship
Server.

You may also run the Configuration Wizard anytime in order to check or change the settings of the
AmosConnect Crew Ship Server.

To do this, run the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server then click on the icon at the lower right corner of the
taskbar:

Click on the tab ‘Ship Server Configuration’:

The following screen shall appear:

This step starts the configuration of the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server:

The following screen shall be displayed:

In this step you have to choose the Mailbox on the AmosConnect Server that will be used by the
AmosConnect Crew server to send and receive all the Crew messages.

You have to make sure which mailbox should be the one used for send and receive crew mail.

The default mailbox to be used is “ADMIN” with “admin” as password.

The following screen shall be displayed:

The configuration wizard will check the following settings:
 If the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server is being installed on the same PC where the
AmosConnect Server is installed and running.
 If the AmosConnect is set as the Default Email Handler;
 If the AmosConnect Mailbox Username and Password is accurate and consistent

 If any of the status checks returns a "NO" the AmosConnect Crew System shall not
function properly.
 Click on ‘Next’

The following screen shall be displayed:

This procedure set the following settings:

 Erases the system log files in order to prevent accumulation into big files sizes
 Automatically deactivate user that are inactive for 15 days
 Set the default Send/Receive time; Default is 60 mins
 Click on ‘Next’

The following screen shall be displayed:

Type the Captain's email address. A copy of the vessel registration will be sent to the email address
inputted. Click on ‘Next’

The following screen shall be displayed:

You have successfully configured the settings for the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server. Click on ‘Finish’

2.5 Installing AmosConnect Crew Client GUI

The AmosConnect Crew Client GUI is the main interface with which users may access their accounts.
Please make sure to install the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server before installing the AmosConnect Crew
Client GUI.

The AmosConnect Crew Client GUI may be installed on any PC in the vessel’s network.

 Insert the AmosConnect installer CD in your PC’s CD Drive:

 Click on the folder ‘3. Amos Connect Crew 5.0.2.6’:

 Click on the Client installer:

The following screen shall appear:

Click on ‘Next’:

The following screen shall appear:

This prompts you for the location in your PC where you want to put AmosConnect Crew program files.
Click on ‘Next’:

This prompts you for the location of the AmosConnect Crew Program Shortcut in your Start Menu.
Click on ‘Next’:

The following screen shall appear:

This prompts you for additional options or tasks to be performed while installing AmosConnect Crew.
Click on ‘Next’

This is a summary of the installation process. Click on ‘Install’ to proceed with the installation.

You have successfully installed the AmosConnect Crew Client GUI.

The AmosConnect Crew Client GUI would automatically search for the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server
every time it opens.

3. Running AmosConnect Crew Ship Server

For instructions on installation, please refer to the AmosConnect Crew Installation Guidelines.

To Open the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server, you have two options:

a. Click the icon located on your desktop.

b. You may go to Start -> All Programs-> AmosConnect Crew -> AmosConnect Crew Ship Server:

Check your computer system tray, you will find the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server icon.

You may now run the Crew Client GUI.

4. Checking the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server

To check the settings of the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server, you can run the Configuration Wizard
anytime.
Run the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server program. Click on the icon that appears at the lower right
corner of the taskbar. Select ‘Ship Server Configuration’.

You may then follow the instructions as described above under ‘Configuring the AmosConnect Crew Ship
Server’
You may also check the other settings of the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server to make sure the system is
running properly.
a. Click on the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server icon on the lower right corner of the task bar, click
‘Server’

Please note that this is just a sample screen shot the IP address may be different depending on the IP
address of the server.

Please make sure that the IP address of the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server is in the list and the boxes
across are ticked. Click on the tab “Start Server”.

Click on the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server icon again on the lower right corner of the task bar. Select
‘Send and Check Email Client’:

This procedure overrides the default timing with which the AmosConnect Crew Ship Server sends
messages to AMOSCONNECT POST OFFICE. This is a useful procedure especially when testing.
