One of the computations used to determine the liquidity of inventory determines the
inventory turnover. In this computation, usually the average inventory is determined by
using the beginning of the year and the end of the year inventory figures, but this
computation can be misleading if the company has seasonal fluctuations or uses a
natural business year. Discuss with your classmates and Mentor how you would
eliminate these distortions.

Activity 8: Case Study 1 (120 points)
Start Assignment

 Due No Due Date

 Points 100

 Submitting a file upload

Activity Description

Case Studies:  The case studies are complex situations relating to the accounting
procedures of existing companies.  The text simplifies the explanations and examples to
enable a learner to grasp the concept.  The case studies expose learners to the formats
that they might face in their actual experiences with accounting and financial data.  The
solution must fit the case and must be vigorously supported. The problem statement,
analysis, selected solution, and especially the justification of the selected solution, are
all critical elements in the case method. There are no shortcuts to case presentations
but a formalized methodology that enables the case presenter the optimal way to solve
the case problem.
Your assignment is to complete case analysis and to answer the questions that follow
the case.  A case analysis consists of Introduction, Analysis, Solution, Justification, and
Summary.  Each case contains the instructions on how best to answer the questions
given.  Follow the instructions.  If they require mathematical computation before the
situational questions can be answered, then use an Excel spreadsheet to do the
numerical calculations so that it can be attached to the written summary of the case.
The requirements for the case studies will vary in length so you must use your own
judgment to determine when the instructions have been fully addressed.  If you have
any questions as to how to proceed, ask your faculty mentor.
Complete and submit Case Study C10-3. ExxonMobil: Interpreting a LIFO footnote
found in your text.  Complete the case using the case format found in the syllabus and
respond to the questions at the end of the case and be sure to answer all questions in a
thorough manner and offer specific answers and calculations using the methods
described in the text.
