 Techniques of making silk were first invented in China around 7000


years ago.
 Some people from China who went to distant lands carried silk with
them.
 The paths they followed came to be known as the Silk Route.

 The best-known of the rulers who controlled the Silk Route were the
Kushanas.
 Their two major centers of power were Peshawar and Mathura. Taxila
was also included in their kingdom.

 The Kushanas were amongst the earliest rulers of the subcontinent to


issue gold coins.

 The spread of Buddhism

 The Kushan King- Kanishka organised a Buddhist Council


 Ashvaghosha- Kanishka’s court-poet composed the Buddhacharita
 Division of Buddhism into two sects – Mahayana and Hinayana
 Buddhism spread to many countries – Sri Lanka, Central Asia,
Myanmar, Thailand Indonesia and many South-East nations.

 The idea of Bhakti – pure devotion gained importance in this period

and architecture.

2. Download the maps of Assam and Rajasthan as well.
3. Paste the pictures of crafts of Assam on the map of Assam and the
same to be done on the map of Rajasthan.
4. Students also need to write a brief note on the same.

important matters.

Ans: a) Fa Xian, Xuan Zang and I-Qing were the famous Chinese Buddhist
pilgrims who came to India to visit places associated with the life of the
Buddha. – Nalanda University and Bodh Gaya
b)They also visited famous monasteries. These pilgrims left an account of their
journey.
c) They also mentioned the books that they carried with them.

Ques 6: Describe the main features of Bhakti. 4 Marks


Ans: a)Bhakti means devotion and individual worship of a god or goddess
rather than performance of elaborate sacrifices.
b) Deities such as Shiva, Vishnu, and goddesses such as Durga were
worshipped through Bhakti.
c) Discarding any kind of discrimination based on gender, caste or creed.  
d) If a devotee worships the chosen deity with a pure heart, the deity will
appear in the form in which he or she may desire.
