The Green Revolution
At the time of independence, the food production in India was very low. Most
farmers used traditional farming methods which could not meet the food
requirements of the country. They were still dependent on rains for irrigation and
did not use any modern technology.
In 1965, the government introduced different techniques to increase production
of food grains in India. A high-yielding variety of seeds was introduced, in addition
to efficient systems of irrigation and better fertilizers. This came to be known as
the Green Revolution and led to a large increase in the production of food grains
like rice and wheat.
Dr.M.S.Swaminathan was the father of the Green Revolution in India.

to store water, which could be used for irrigation.
