WORD WEB
A Word Web (also known as semantic mapping) illustrates how keywords or concepts are
related to one another through graphic representations. The primary purpose of a Word
Web is to teach students how new concepts are defined and interrelated. It also helps to
enhance vocabulary and frame sentences thereby helping the students in paragraph
writing. The student will be instructed on this activity in the classroom.
What we expect from Parents? Parents are requested to help their child prepare a „Word
Web‟ at home in his/her English notebook. You can help your child by adding new words
to the web.
A sample of the „Word Web‟ is as follows:

topic for the next two months is given below.
Topic: Money Management
Objective: To teach the students how to manage money and value money
Money management
Teach the child how to save money, how to plan budget and how to spend optimally.

6
Activity for the Parents
Here is a simple way to get your child involved in saving money with coupons.
• Make a grocery shopping list. Ask the child to include item that he/she wishes to
buy.
• Next replace or remove the items from the list that are not needed or are unhealthy
to eat (if the child has listed eating items).
• While performing Step 3 counsel the child how removing items would help them
save money that can be used somewhere else.
• Take your child to the grocery store.
• Take along discount coupons, (if any) to the supermarket. This would help them
understand how discount helps in saving money.
• Find all the items on the list.
• Help the child to put the items in the basket. Go to the cashier and show the
discount coupons to avail the discount.
• Unpack the groceries once you get back home.
• Ask him/her to calculate money saved during the shopping.
• Give a surprise to the child and present him/her with the money saved as his/her
pocket money and counsel him/her about spending it wisely.
This little project may not just save (the parents') money, but also make the children aware
of the importance and ways of saving money.
