He used a big red ball to depict the sun and balls of different sizes for making planets. He used a blue ball to show Earth. Stars were made using shiny silver papers. By nine o'clock that night, he had finished his science project. “L wish I could travel to these planets! How much fun it would bel” he thought to himself. After dinner, he went straight to bed. “Shubham! Come out! We're waiting!” 4 someone called out at night from outside his window. “Who would call out at this hour?” Shubham got up and went to the window. He was surprised when he drew the curtain and saw outside. ‘Two strange creatures were standing at the window. Their eyes were red and they had antennas on their heads. Shubham w cared. ! Come ” one of the “Don’t be scared, Shubham! outside! We are your friends! creatures said. Shubham pulled himself together and went outside, CHAMPAK He went to the creatures and asked, “Who are you? How do you know my name?” “We've come from another planet! My 42, and this is my friend, We've come to take you to our planet We'll show you the Milky Way on our way,” said T-42 introducing himself. name is Shubham did not feel so scared anymore. He wanted to go with them. He said, “I would have been happy to come with you. But Tcan’t come. I have to be at school tomorrow morning as [ have a science project to submit.” “Don't worry about that! We have a super rocket. It just takes a few minutes to reach our planet. Then we'll see the other planets July (First) 2018 and the Milky Way and be back on earth before school tomorrow morning,” said 7-42, “All right! But where is your rocket? I can’t see it anywhere!” asked Shubham, looking around, T-42 pressed some buttons on a remote in his hand. A moment later, a rocket appeared before them. “This is our super rocket! It'll take us to our planet! Come, let’s get in,” said T-42. Shubham, T-42 and T-50 entered the rocket. In a flash of firepower and smoke, the rocket set off. There were many screens inside the rocket, that kept showing images of planets and stars as they whizzed past them “T-42 is such a strange name!” said Shubham. “Names on our planet are based on codes,” explained T-42. ‘The rocket reached outer'space’ soon’ “You'll now see the Milky Way on screen, And there is your solar system. That’s the sun shining in the middle. And the planets revolving around it,” pointed ‘T-50, explaining to Shubham what came on screen, T-50 pointed out to a blue planet and said, “Shubham, that’s Earth! The abundance of water and the atmosphere gives it the blue color.” The tour of the Milky Way was exciting, Soon after, the rocket came to a halt on a rocky terrain, “We've reached our planet. It’s millions of kilometers away from Earth,” said T-42 and handed a space suit and mask to Shubham. “Wear this,” he said. “Our planet doesn’t have oxygen. And the temperature is very high. This suit will protect you from the heat and the oxygen mask will help you breathe.” As soon as they stepped out of the rocket, bright lights flashed on Shubham’s face. ‘The planet was full of several spherical hhouses:’There were no trees or plants. T-50 went towards one house and said, “This is my house, And that one belongs to T-42.” “What do you guys eat? I don’t see any plants or trees around. There aren't any shops cither,” said Shubham. T-50 smiled and said, “We don’t eat plants or animals. Our meals are comprised of tablets. One tablet is equivalent to one meal. We never feel thirsty either.” “We're much ahead of Earth in science and technology, We have the means to travel from one planet to another within a matter of minutes,” said T-42. “Can you show me around?” asked Shubham. CHAMPAK ‘T-50 said sadly, “Well, there’s nothing really to see on our planet. It’s all barren land. The high temperature burns everything, We also have firestorms at times. The inhabitants spend most of their time indoors.” “Firestorm? But doesn’t that burn the inhabitants?” asked Shubham. “We have antennas on our heads. We get intimated beforehand of any oncoming firestorm, Then we go to our homes and lock ourselves in. Our homes are fireproof,” said ‘T-42. Shubham walked ahead and all he could see were vast barren lands. Then, Shubham noticed a large crater that was spread over a large distance. “That looks like a seashore,” he/said) aloud. “You're right! Long ago, there used to be a sea here. The environment of our planet was much like Earth’s. We had rivers, vegetation, birds and animals but we didn’t take care of our ecosystem then, We neglected and misused our natural resources. And everything depleted over time,” said 'T-50, feeling sad. ‘T-50 continued, “Deforestation got rid of the greenery. Pollution kept on increasing, The air became toxic. All the July (First) 2018 wildlife died. Our scientific knowledge enabled us to survive but our planet died and we became machines.” Shubham became thoughtful and said, “That's sad! If we don’t take care of Earth, it too will become barren like this.” “That’s correct, Shubham! If the environment is not conserved, Earth too will become barren one day. The rivers and seas will dry up and all greenery will disappear. Wildlife will become extinct. Your beautiful planet will become barren like ours. The inhabitants will become like machines.” “How do we save our planet?” asked Shubham. “You need to stop cutting down trees and plant more, limit polluting industries, save water and cut gases that deplete the ozone layer. Such steps will protect Earth from becoming barren,” said T-50. “I promise to protect our planet and raise awareness,” said Shubham Suddenly, the antennas of T-42 and T-50 started buzzing. “Shubham! Run towards the house! A firestorm’s coming!” said T-50. Shubham could see flashes of fire on the horizon. It was approaching fast. ‘They ran towards the house. Shubham’s throat became dry. He could not run anymore. He removed the mask from his face and started screaming, “Water! Water!” ‘Then someone sprinkled a few drops of water on his face. He felt relieved. “Lm so thirsty! Give me more water,” said Shubham. w.t.me/velarch_offig “What are you mumbling in your sleep? Did you have another dream? It’s 7 a.m. Let’s get ready for school” said Shubham’s mom, He woke up with a start. His mom was standing in front of him with a glass of water in her hand. DW NoUvIVo ew Shubham looked at his science project kept on the table and smiled and said, “Even if it was a dream, I did take a trip to the Milky Way and to another planet after all.” @ CHAMPAK TINKU SAVES THE DAY By Om Prakash Gupta inku was a clever boy and would think of a new game every day and use his knowledge to lord over his friends who lived in his society, Tinku’s father was a police officer at the international airport. One day when Tinku’s father returned home, he looked sad and upset. Tinku looked at him and understood that something wasn’t right. He went close to his father and asked, “Dad, what's the matter? You look very stressed today.” “Yes, son. I am, in fact, very worried today. For the first time in 15 years, I met a man who did not speak a single word even though he was being questioned by us for more than 10 hours.” Listening to his father, Tinku said, “Who are you talking about, dad? Who is not saying what?” “Tinku, today we received news that a man would get diamonds into India from an international flight. When we caught him at the airport, we searched him thoroughly, but we couldn’t find a single diamond. Even after we questioned him, he didn’t say anything.” “Then the news that you received may have been false,” said Tinku. Listening to Tinku’s logic, his father said, “No son. The information we received is correct. And we caught the same bearded guy whose description matched the information we received.” “Did you comb through his beard to check for the diamonds?” Tinku laughed and said. “What do you mean Tinku?” his father asked, sitting up. Tinku said, “Dad, you must have heard the Hindi phrase that goes, ‘a blade of grass in the thief’s beard’. So I asked if you combed through his beard to search for the diamonds.” ‘Tinku hada’t even completed his sentence when his father got up suddenly and left on his motorcycle. When his father returned two hours later, he looked happy. July (First) 2018 “Dad, you look very happy. Did your problem get solved?” asked Tinku. “Yes, son! Today, thanks to you, we were able to catch the thief red-handed,” replied his father. “So you found the diamonds? Please tell me where they were,” said Tinku. “They were exactly where you said they would be-in his beard! That smuggler tied together the diamonds with a black thread and made a chain of it. He then tied it to the back of his long beard.” ‘Tinku jumped up excitedly and said, “Then I should get a prize dad. I helped catch a thief.” “Yes, sure I'l give you a prize.” Dad picked) Tinkwup, placed him on his lap and kissed his head. @ ‘Teacher: How will you divide six mangoes among eight people? All wells and ponds had dried up. Due to water scarcity, King Shersingh announced, “All citizens of our forest are requested not to waste water. Until the rains start, water will be supplied just for one hour in the morning and evening everyday. Everyone will have to manage with it.” All the animals of Champakvan realised that the water problem was serious and started using water sparingly. But Titu butterfly did not care, and would 14 wash the leaves of her plants and sprinkle the ground with water daily. She loved playing with water. All tried to persuade Titu not to waste water but she continued to use water carelessly. All the animals complained to King Shersingh who called her. He said, “Titu, you are so small. You need just a little water for drinking and bathing. Then why do you use so much water? Though you are using the water given to you, when you use it for this purpose, it makes all the others angry in the jungle. CHAMPAK Titu said, “I suffer from dust allergy. When dust is around, I get sick and start sneezing and am unable to breathe well. I cannot sleep. That is why I have to sprinkle water around my house.” “Even then Titu, try to save water as much as possible, If you can, instead of washing the leaves, wipe them with water. In front of the king, Titu agreed but when she went home, she kept using water as per her wish. All the animals wanted to go to King Shersingh to complain against her. Cheeku rabbit lived near Titu’s house. He said, “It is not wise.to. trouble the King for every small thing. I have thought of a plan so that Tita can continue playing with water and yet it will not be wasted.” “How is that possible? asked Meeku mouse. “Let’s see. I will not talk about it!” said Cheeku. Next day, the animals saw that Cheeku was burrowing beds under Titu’s tree. After two days, he planted vegetable seeds in the beds. Titu did not realise that she was watering vegetable plants because she was busy watering her leaves and home. July (First) 2018 In a few days, small shoots appeared from the beds. The vegetable garden grew under Titu’s home. When Shersingh learnt about it, he too was happy. At that moment, he received an invitation from Dara rhinoceros, the Minister of their neighbouring forest, Kanchanvan. The invite said, “Like every year, this year too, we are organising water sports in our big pond. We request you to be Chief Guest at this year’s water sports.” Shersingh was bewildered. He asked the messenger, Nitu porcupine, “In our forest, with great difficulty, we are able to provide water. Our wells and ponds are dry and you are having water sports. How have you kept your ponds full of water?” “IF you too celebrate the Forest Festival like us, then there will be no scarcity of water in Champakvan,” said Nitu, “Forest Festival? What is that?” asked Shersingh. “We plant plenty of trees in our forest And we take care of our existing plants and trees, make the best possible use of objects made from wood. Pencils and paper that are made by cutting trees, are not wasted, so as to avoid cutting trees. Because of this, our forest is quite cool and we don’t need to run air conditions and coolers. That way, we have water and electricity. Most importantly, we collect and store rain water by water-harvesting, We use the stored water for all our needs, and the wells and ponds in our forest never dry up. All these help us in organising water games even in summer.” “Now I understand. We too will plant trees in abundance in our forest and will collect rain water by water harvesting, We too will celebrate Forest Festival Ple and enjoy the water sports. I thank him for the invitation.” @ se tell Dara that I will surely come SONAL iz THE BLUBBER SUIT ‘Stuep | bags © Cold water 1. Fill two bowls with cold water. Butter or fat is not a good conductor of heat and does not let heat pass through it. When the hand thar is covered in butter is put in the chilled water, the butter does not let the heat from the hand transfer to the cold water unlike the hand which is covered in plain plastic. Mammals like whales, seals, sea lions and polar bears, which live in cold environments, have a layer of blubber under the skin. The blubber is a thick layer of fat. Itis a poor conductor of heat and thus keeps them warm in chilled waters. In our experiment, the plastic bag represents the skin and the butter, the blubber. Heat easily transfers through the plastic (the skin) but not through the butter. How does a B woollen sweater keep you warm? Sweaters are made out of wool and \ wool traps air in between its fibres. Since air is a bad conductor of heat, it does not transfer the heat away from the body and so this way the wool keeps the warm air close to the body and keeps the body warm. More layers of sweaters trap more air and hence more heat is produced. This is how woollens keep us warm, TINU BECOMES A HERO By Manoj Roy jinu tiger was very timid. He would get frightened even if someone stared at him. His mother was very worried about Tinu. She told him stories about courage and why he need not have fear. However, Tinu remained scared and timid. Oné day when Tinu came home from school, he was very quiet. “What happened, Tinu? You are very quiet today,” asked his mother. “Mummy, I don’t want to go to school, Pinku monkey troubles me a lot. He pulls my long tail and laughs at me,” said Tinu. s mother stroked his and said, “Son, } tiger. You should not bother about such small things. You talk to Pinku and tell him this bothers you and that he should not do it.” uu are a When Tinu did not say anything, she said, “If he does not stop troubling you, then talk to your class teacher about his behaviour.” CHAMPAK On hearing his mom, Tinu shivered, “If I complain against him, he will trouble me more.” “IE you keep getting frightened with these small things, then how will you manage in future? You must learn to stand up for yourself, son,” said his mother. Tinu nodded his head and promised that he will stand up, but was still unsure about what to do. The next day, all the school children were going for a picnics Tinu remembered his mother’s words and promised to himself that he would be brave. After boarding the school bus, Tinu sat on the window seat and was enjoying seeing the landscape. Some children were sleeping in the bus. Suddenly, the bus halted with a screech. “Oh! Why has the bus stopped?” cried the children, woken up by the jerk. “There are big boulders across the road,” said Moti dog, the bus driver. “How did these rocks come here? They were not here yesterday.” Before anyone could say anything, Motu wolf and Kalu bear rushed into July (Firs!) 2018 the bus. They were notorious criminals of the jungle. One stood behind the driver and the other closed the door tightly. “Keep still children. No one will move from his seat. You all have been kidnapped,” Motu said. “We have weapons with us. So do as we tell you. Or else you know what will happen.” The children got very frightened. Some of them started crying, 19 “Turn the bus to the old hill road. All of you will be in our custody tonight,” said Kalu. “We will release you only after getting money from your parents. Those whose parents do not pay will be dead meat,” said Motu, laughing. “Just sce, this monkey is trying to telephone someone,” said Kalu. Everyone looked at Pinku who had a mobile in his hand. “How dare you?” Kalu shouted in anger and gave a hard blow on Pinku’s face that started bleeding, This frightened all 20 the children, who sat ve “There is a tiger here in this bus but he looks more scared than a rat,” said Kalu seeing Tinu. Tinu pretended to be frightened and said, “Please do not beat me. I feel very frightened.” “Ho! Ho! As I had said, he is a timid tiger.” Kalu laughed again. “We have reached our destination, All of you, get down quietly and move up the old hill. If anyone tries to run, then there will be consequences,” Kalu warned them. CHAMPAK, All the children got down quietly and started walking in a queue. “Tiger kid, you come with me. And Kalu, you stay with the others at the end. And yes, give me the gun,” said Motu, He stared at everyone and said, “These children are so timid that we don’t need any weapon.” Kalu also started smiling, He gun to Motu. Tinu stood, watching Motu and them closely. As soon as Motu started climbing the hills, Tinu attacked him from behind. He dug his sharp claws on Motu, who was taken aback by this sudden attack, He had no time to defend himself. All the children were surprised to inu’s courage. They too started to feel encouraged and attacked Kalu. Within a few minutes, both the criminals gave up. “Well done, Tinu,” Roma squirrel, their July (Firs!) 2018 teacher said, patting his back. “If you had not shown courage, we would have been in big trouble.” “Bravo Tinu, you were wonderful,” said Pinku. CYCLE&+RACE By Sanju Roy ike every year, this year too, a cycle race was being organised in Haritvan, All participants had to get their names registered with Jumbo clephant. Although the race was a week away, Rohan rabbit, Bholu bear, Dumpy monkey and Chunky donkey had got their names registered. Chunky was taking part in the race for the first time. Rohan, Bholu and Dumpy had been taking part in it every year, All of them, except Chunky, owned racing cycles. Last year Rohan had won the race. This Year too, he was confident of his victory. He had the best racing cycle in all of Haritvan, as his was from abroad. Chunky was worried as his cycle had become old and rusty. Although, he had registered himself, he realised that he had no chance of winning the race with his old cycle. All of his friends gathered at the Haritvan field in the evening for practice and preparation, When Chunky reached the field, he found Rohan and Dumpy already practicing. Chunky too joined them. But when they saw his old cycle, they started laughing at him. “Chunky, your cycle should be put up as an antique in the museum. How do you expect to win with this junk cycle?” said Rohan. “If you take my advice, Chunky, you should withdraw your name from the race. One needs a good racing eycle like ours to win the cycle race,” advised Dumpy. Chunky was hurt but held back his tears. He left the field and quietly went back home. As soon as he entered the house, he dropped his cycle on the floor angrily and sat on his chair, crying. When his mother saw him crying, she came up to him and asked, “What happened Chunky? Why are you crying?” Chunky shared everything with his mother and asked her for a new cycle for the competition. Chunky’s mum stroked his hair fondly July (First) 2018 and said, “Chuaky, you know right now, we do not have enough money to buy a new cycle. As far as participating in a race goes, you can do that on your old cycle as well. You can win with it too.” “Don't give me false hopes, mum. How can I compete with Rohan and Dumpy’s new cycles with my old rickety cycle?” said Chunky, drying his tears. “Don’t worry if your cycle is not new. Practice regularly. You still have a week before the race. Don’t pay any attention when Rohan and Dumpy tease you. Concentrate on practising,” said Chunky’s mum. “We can spend some money and get your cycle repaired by a good mechanic,” his mum added. 27 ‘The next day Chunky took his cycle to the mechanic who put oil in the chains, changed its gears, and gave it a polish. Chunky’s cycle looked good and rode smoothly. Chunky started his practice with determination. Every day, he spent two hours cycling around the ground. At first he would get tired easily but slowly, his stamina built and he was able to take many rounds of the field without getting tired. Rohan, Bholu and Dumpy were full of confidence of their racing cycles. They did not practice much. Every evening they turned up at the field, but instead of practicing, they just sat there gossiping and laughed at Chunky. Chunky did not pay attention to theif comments and just kept cycling. On the day of the race, the participants stood on the start line. Chunky was quiet while Rohan, Dumpy and Bholu, boasted of their sure-shot victory. Cheetah Singh whistled and waved to start the race. Rohan shot like an arrow and was soon ahead of all. Just behind him were Dumpy and Bholu with Chunky coming in last. Buta little ahead, Rohan’s cycle started giving trouble and he got down to try to set it right. Now Dumpy was in the lead. Bholu and Chunky followed him. Chunky’s mother was there to see the race. She kept encouraging her son, “Well ‘done Chunky! Keep on Chunky!” After three rounds, Dumpy and Bholu started getting tired and they slowed down. Chunky, because of his training, kept on cycling and left the others behind, and won the race easily. Sheru lion went on to the stage and sa “The winner of today’s race is Chunky. Not only did he win the race, but has completed it in the shortest time, setting a new history in the cycling history of Haritvan. He gets a special award along with his trophy.” Chunky went on the stage with a big smile on his face. He was thrilled when he was presented a brand new racing cycle along July (First) 2018 HARITVAN CYCLE RAC™ with the trophy. King Sheru asked him to speak a few words. “I won the race because of my mother. If she had not encouraged me, I would not have taken part in the race, because my cycle was old and rusty. I felt I would not win the race on it, But my mother explained to me that to win a race, we need hard work and practice, and that is why I dedicate this to her.” Alll the animals cheered him and his mother was very proud and happy for him. @ 29 Join the dots to find out what everyone is laughing at. F* She saw aman sitting on a bench and fle murmured, “Sit, I am very hungry. May I suck some blood?” ind sat on the man’s ear and Hearing the buzzing sound she made, the man tried to chase her away, but Moski kept coming back. She then went and sat on his leg, Seeing this, the man again patted on his leg, but Moski was very quick and escaped from there. “Why are you behind me, when I’m 34 already so thin? Go to the blood bank and drink how much ever blood you want. Go away,” said the man. “A blood bank, what’s that?” Moski asked the man. “Come, I'll take you to see one,” offered the man. As soon as they went inside the blood bank, Moski started shivering as it was very cold inside. so cold in here,” said Moski, her teeth trembling. When she saw what was inside the bank, she froze! CHAMPAK Hundreds of bottles were filled with blood and kept inside. “Oh wow, this is a blood factory. I think they make blood here. If I knew how blood made, I too would not have had to go and keep sucking blood from humans. People are so cruel that for a little bit of blood they want to take our lives,” Moski thought. Suddenly a person saw Moski and screamed, “Hey, how did this mosquito come inside? Quick, get me the spray, now! Hearing this, Moski flew as fast as he could and got out and went to the juice shop which was next to the blood bank, and watched the juice stall owner. The stall owner took out a small plastic packet and poured it inside the water and shook it well. Soon the water changed colour and became red. Moski now knew how blood was made. She excitedly lew to her friend Lucy and told her how mosquitoes can make blood. Hearing this, her friends became very happy and decided to get the blood packet for themselves. They flew to the stall owner's shop, and Lucy bit the owner on his leg to distract him. As he bent down to scratch his leg, Moski and the others took one of the packets and flew away. On reaching a safe place, Moski opened the packet and mixed it in the water tub. The water changed colour and Moski said, “Now we don’t need human blood. Come, let’s have a party. July (First) 2018 All the mosquitoes jumped into the water to have their fill of blood. “Hey, this tastes different,” said one of them tasting the red water. “Even after drinking, I am still feeling hungry, said another. “I feel di: the third announced. “Yes, there is no taste in this blood,” said Moski. ‘They all looked up to grandma Mona coming towards them, “Grandma Mona, please taste and tell us, what type of blood is this?” asked Moski. Grandma tasted the water and said, “This is not blood. This seems to be some kind of flavoured water which is red in colour.” “It means we have failed to make the blood, and once again we have to depend on humans for the blood,” said Moski looking depressed. Mona grandma explained, “Humans have not been able to make blood, then how can we mosquitoes hope to make it.” Moski told grandma, the story about how she saw the blood bank and the bottles, and thought that the juice owner was making them outside and supplying it to the bank. Grandma laughed and explained that the bottles in the bank were collected from human beings and stored in case anyone needed blood 36 during a medical emergency. As she finished speaking, she added that it was her time to leave. “Where are you going?” asked Moski. “To a place where its is full of dirt and water is all over in the house and to a place where the water is stored inside a drainage. You will get some human beings easily and then you can suck the blood out of them. This distracted Billu and Sweety quickly jumped again onto the tree. This gave Robbie a chance to escape and made Billu angry. Billu mumbled, “That naughty Sweety ruined everything, I'll take care of her later.” She left from there. A while later, Robbie came out of hiding and started looking around to sce if Billu was nearby. He was still trembling with fear. He thanked Sweety for her help. I feel she will pounce on me any moment,” said Robbie. “You have called me a friend, and so I'm A2 your friend from today. It is sensible to be scared of Billu. But to be always living in fear—that’s not right! From today onwards, go about your business. We will see how Billu should not scare you again,” said Sweety confidently. “But if you are not around and I don’t see het coming, and she pounces on me, then what will Ido? I wouldn't even be able to call out for help,” said Robbie, shivering again at that thought. “No, I mean you should be alert, but not scared all the time. Come with me, I'll show you how enemies can stay together in many different places. They eat and play, enjoy themselves, but are also alert. They aren’t scared all the time,” Sweety explained to Robbie. “I néverithought about it like that. Look at this tree itself, There are so many birds living here. There are crows, sparrows, hawks and also snakes living in holes in the tree. They all live their lives without fear,” Robbie answered. “See you understood this yourself, When others are not scared, why are you? Now let’s go a little ahead. Let me show you something,” urged Sweety. Robbie and Sweety set off together. “Let’s go towards the river bank,” said Sweety. ‘They reached the river bank and saw many goats drinking water from the river. Ducks and buffaloes were swimming in it. Suddenly, a crocodile rose from the river, and Robbie cried out, “Oh! What a beast! Does it also live in the river?” CHAMPAK, “Yes, it does, The river has many small and big fishes. If they were always scared, they would never be able to live their lives," said Sweety. “You're right!” said Robbie. They went further. Sweety said, “Earlier, I used to stay on another tree. One day I was watching some peacocks dance, when all of a sudden a tiger came out of nowhere and pounced on one of them. I simply shut my eyes in fear. When I opened them again, I saw that the peacocks had flown away.” “Similarly, I’ve seen deer giving their predator a slip. When I saw these different animals living without fear and with confidence, I too followed their example. All I do now is stay alert. Carelessness can cost lives. So one should always be careful and alert but not scared,” explained Sweety. “Yes, [understand you. But tell me something, why did you leave the forest and come to the city?” asked Robbie. “When humans started cutting down trees in the forest, I had to leave it and come here. | now live here peacefully, and also I have you as my friend!” said Sweety, happily. Robbie said, “I too am pleased to have met you, Shall we leave for home now?” July (First) 2018 “Yes, let’s go!” and both of them started walking back. As they neared their home, they saw Billu approaching them. This time, instead of being scared, they quickly changed course and hid in hollows of a tree. Sweety said, “That was a nice outing, Lev’s rest, and then we can play together.” “And we'll not be scared of anyone! Thanks, my brave friend!” said Robbie and went to his bill. Plenty of trees are planted during this week. We too shall celebrate it in our school from tomorrow,” announced the class teacher. Rajesh was curious. He stood up and asked, “What's the point of celebrating tree plantation? Trees can’t talk or walk. How will they participate in this festival?” “Even though trees can’t walk or talk, we know that trees have life. We feel that when we plant saplings, the old trees sense comfort of having new friends. The joy they feel is invisible to us and beyond our human senses.” Naveen stood and said, “Ok, even if the old trees feel happy, but I still think this festival is a waste of time. How does it affect us if they are happy or not? Just to make someone happy, we cannot be wasting away our time unnecessarily, I believe studies are more important. Naveen looked out and saw many trees that-were outside had spoken out collectively, smiling. “What are you all doing there? Can’t you see I’m upset? Why are you all smiling?” Still smiling, the teak tree said, “When you're not bothered about our feelings, why should we be bothered about yours? Your bed is made from teak wood.
