Everyone became very excited. “Are you really taking us to the moon?” Damru donkey asked in amazement. “Yes. All, but the big and heavy animals, Otherwise our rocket will not be able to take off from the ground.” 4 Most animals words, tarted laughing at Baddy’s “But where is your rocket?” Cheeku rabbit enquired. “And also, what would be the cost of taking us to the moon?” “Our rocket is on an island not far from here. And for the cost, my motive is not business ot to make money. I just want to give you the joy of going on the moon. So you do not have to pay anything for the trip,” replied Baddy. CHAMPAK Alll the animals started shouting in joy. “There seems to be something fishy here,” whispered Cheeku to Jumpy monkey. “We have to be careful.” Both went to king Shersingh and told him about Baddy’s trip to the moon. “If Baddy wants to do this, then it is a very good thing, Why are you troubled by his offer?” asked Shersingh and told them to leave the matter. Cheeku then said to Jumpy, “We will have to keep an eye on Baddy on our own.” ‘Meanwhile, in the forest there was a fierce competition among the animals to go to the moon, Most of the small animals had registered their names with Baddy. “Please be ready for the trip tomorrow. I will take you on the motor boat, to the island. From there we will go on the rocket to the moon. If the weather remains favourable, then we will be able to go on the moon tomorrow itself,” said Baddy and all the animals became all the more excited. “T will take my favorite dress with me,” said Titu butterfly excitedly. “No, please don’t bring any clothes or anything else. You will have to wear space- suits to the moon that we will provide. ‘And yes, one more thing, leave your money and jewellery back in your house,” Baddy said. “We will return in a week.” forthe All the animals waited impatient] evening, . In the evening Baddy came with a motor boat to take them, “Cheeku, why are you not coming?” asked Baddy. “Baddy, please go ahead. I have got some urgent work to finish, My friend Jumpy will go with you,” said Cheeku with a smile, AAs soon as the motor boat left, Cheeku rushed to King | Shersingh. “Sir, here is something very interesting,” said Cheeku opening his laptop. He started the search engine and typed Baddys’ name, Soon many web pages came on the screen. He selected one and clicked onit. “This is Baddy,” said Cheeku. “But why has the police caught him?” King Shersingh spoke out. “Because he and his companions had looted the animals of Sonavana. He was even sentenced to jail. But he tricked them and ran away. Now he has come here,” said Checku. “What does this mean?” asked Shersingh. “Ie means that Baddy and his friends are thieves. They promise to take the animals to planet Jupiter or to the moon, and take them away from their houses. Then at night his companion steals all valuables from the locked houses. As soon as Baddy is informed that all the valuables have been stolen, he escapes to another forest. ‘And his companions join him there,” explained Cheeku, “This is a big conspiracy!” exclaimed Shersingh. “Why didn’t you inform me earlier?” asked Shersingh who was visibly angry. “I tried to warn you earlier sir, but you felt it was alright for Baddy to take the animals to the moon,” replied Cheeku. “Now what shall we do?” asked Shersingh. “Don't worry sit. Nothing will happen. Ihave sent my friend Jumpy, with them. Tonight Baddy’s friends will try to steal from the houses of these animals. We can catch them red handed. And with their help we can catch Baddy,” Cheeku explained. “But we have to be very careful. If Baddy gets the wind of this, he may harm our citizens,” Cheeku continued. CHAMPAK, “You need not worry. Iam going to talk to Inspector Blacky Bear,” Shersingh assured Cheeku. At night Inspector Blacky and his team spread out in the forest. They hid outside the houses of the people who had gone on the trip. Suddenly some movement was seen outside Damru donkey’s house. Inspector Blacky gave the signal, and his team caught Laptu jackal from there and on questioning him they were able to catch all the others. “But how do we catch Baddy? He is very cunning,” asked Shersingh who was really worried, “We have a plan for that, too,” said Cheeku and whispered something in Shersingh’s car. Laptu jackal phoned Baddy, “Hello Baddy, we have collected all the treasure. Please come here quickly on your motor boat, so that we can get out of here immediately.” “That's perfect! I have mixed sleeping powder in the food of the animals. They are all sleeping soundly. Iam coming on the motor boat. Meet me at the river side,” Baddy the speaker phone, so that, Cheeku and Shersingh aid on. could heat whatever Baddy said. Ina few hours, Baddy was in the police custody. Next day when the animals woke up, they could not understand anything. “Have we reached the moon?” asked Meeku rat looking around, «No, you are not on the moon. You are in Champakvan. But Baddy who was taking you on a trip to the moon, is on a trip to jail,” said Cheeku. Shersingh and Inspector Bear started laughing. ‘The other animals could not understand anything and they started looking at each others’ face. Later when Shersingh told them what had happened, they all praised and thanked Cheeku @ ‘Help Ms. Lakshmi, reach the corre for the Teacher’ September 5. They had a daughter, Chuniya, She was a very naughty and very inquisitive baby squirrel. She was busy jumping from one branch of the tree to another. Sometimes, she would hang from the edge of very weak tree branch and call out to her parents, “Mother ...... watch how I am hanging down!” Chuniya’s parents would just grab her down from the branch and bring her back to their burrow. ‘They would try to put some sense into her, “You will break your hands and legs if you continue with your acrobats. You are still too young for all these things,” they scolded her. Chuniya would be sad every time her parents scolded her, but she coudn't contain herself from being naughty. (One day Chuniya noticed a round and long green coloured thing in the grocer’s garden. Italso had some white and brown lines on it. She asked her mother, “What is that thing over there?” Chuniya’s mother took a look in that September (Firs!) 2018 direction. “Chunni, it is a watermelon!” Her mother would fondly call Chuniya as Chunni whenever she felt like pampering Chuniya, Chuniya’s curiosity knew no bounds now, She stared at the watermelon with wide open eyes. Till date she had neither seen nor tasted one. She questioned her mother, “How does it taste?” Her mother replied,“Oh! It is very sweet to taste.” Chuniy: the very sight of watermelon now. She insisted, “Mother, I want to eat it.” ’s mouth started watering at “Not now. We are going out on an important task. We will arrange for it once we are back,” replied her mother. Chuniya acted stubborn, “No... I want it right now” to e: Her mother tried to pacify her, “I will get 10 it as soon as I am back.” But Chuniya was adamant, “I want to go now and take a bite.” Her mother shouted angrily and said, “You hould not go and taste it! You are unaware about the ways of the world. You can get trapped, ‘Things are not alway: what they appear to be. Chuniya’s father joined them. He had been sitting on the branch of thé treet ehwek to See if it was safe to climb down the tree. Her father had overheard their discussion and told Chuniya to be careful. Before departing, Chuniya’s mother cuddled her and said, “T will get the watermelon once I am back. Be careful and play near the burrow only.” Chuniya watched her parents leave, sitting on the tree top. Finally, they were out of sight. She immediately set her eyes on the watermelon again, But her mind was flooded with her parent’s warnings and advices. She forced herself to look away. She started to climb towards the top branch to avoid looking at the watermelon. But the watermelon was visible from every nook and corner CHAMPAK, of the tree. It would only increase her longing for the fruit. Chuniya restlessly scampered from one branch to another but she could not erase the watermelon from her mind. She gave up in the end. She thought, “I can take a quick bite and come back.” Without wasting any time, Chuniya climbed down the tree. She started nibbling the watermelon. She didn’t like the taste of the hard peel. It tasted raw and tough to chew. She thought, “Mother had said that melons tasted sweet. But this one is not and mother is never wrong. Let me bite a little more into it.” Her efforts were rewarded soon. She had finally dug into the sweet part of the melon. She enjoyed the juicy, sweet and red coloured portion of the melon. She started gobbling the melon as she had never tasted such a sweet fruit. She was enjoying cach and every bit of the fruit, unaware of her surroundings. Chuniya had reached the other end of the melon, nibbling through it. But her mouth got stuck inside the melon. She could neither move in nor out. She tried to free herself but could not. She started shouting out to her parents for help. But her parents were away. She was reminded of her parent’s advice and warnings. They were absolutely right. ‘They had warned her against climbing down the tree. She was trapped. There was no one to plead. Her throat went dry because of her continuous screams. She took deep sighs and spoke feebly, “Father Mother Please save me.” September (Firs!) 2018 Just then her parents returned home. They were worried when they couldn't find Chuniya inside the burrow. They started shouting out for her. Suddenly, her mother heard a feeble voice coming from a particular direction. She called out to her husband. Ie didn’t take them long to recognise that it was Chuniya’s voice. Both of them ran down to the garden. Chuniya was in a very bad shape. Her head was half buried inside the melon, She was crying for her mother and father. Chuniya’s parents quickly bit into the melon and saved Chuniya, Chuniya asked her parents for forgiveness and promised that thereafter she would never disobey them. Her parents hugged her and were thankful that she was safe. ° VW VIVRSERN INVA 3d om Amit: Where do the cows go for entertainment? Sohan: To the moooooooovies. Priya was very confused. She had not been subjected to Such strict supervision in her old school. She was a brave and confident girl. She did not let that incident hurt her. ‘The next three exams went as smoothly as the others and soon they were over. Within a week, the teachers finished the corrections and started distributing the corrected answer sheets to the students. The Geography teacher was distributing the sheets, according to the roll numbers. She called out Priya’s roll number and made an announcement. CHAMPAK “This new student has done exceptionally well. She has scored 18/20. For the first time in my career as a teacher in this school, I have seen some student get such good marks. Priya is a new student. ‘The supervisor had given her a remark saying ‘-2 marks for late submission,’ But I did not deduct her marks as she was not used to the ways of this school. Do you all agree with me?” All the students said a loud “Yes ma’am.” Priya was very happy. She thanked the Geography teacher and went home smiling. Priya was now 35 years old. She had become a publisher in the education field. She wanted to help students and signed as a teacher in her old school, for students in the fifth to seventh grades. Priya offered to write notes for the students. The volunteers said that their committee will have to discuss this with the school principal. By now Priya’s Geography teacher had become the principal of the school. She had heard a lot about Priya’s achievements in the field of education. She was proud of her student. Priya was glad that her favourite teacher was the principal by now. Priya told the volunteers that she had been a student of the principal, and she was sure the principal would remember her. Priya also told the volunteers that the principal would understand exactly September (First) 2018 how Priya’s notes would help the students and said, “Please discuss this matter accordingly with the principal.” When the volunteers discussed the proposal with the principal, the principal asked them to convey a big ‘Thank You’ to Priya. The volunteers did not know the secret story behind the thank you from the principal. But Priya understood what her favourite teacher wanted to say. “You may be well aware that the school cannot pay you for your work at par with your employers. But we appreciate this gesture.” This was Priya’s way of thanking her school and her favourite teacher. And this was her teacher’s way of thanking her student for remembering her @ 15 1. Gitti’ § Little Friends By Renuka Shrivastava ti squirrel was annoyed with her friend Pinky pigeon because Pinky had been so busy. She hadn't met Gitti. Gitti had begun eating and playing on her own, But sometimes she would get bored and lonely and run around every corner of the house looking for Pinky. Not finding her, she would get back to being on her own again, Pinky and Gitti lived in a large house in the city. Rohit was the owner of the house who lived alone. He would get ready early, cat his meal and leave for work. 18 He really loved his little friends, Pinky and Gitti, who ran around the house all day, so no matter how late he would be, he would always put out plenty of food for them on the roof. Pinky, Gitti and their friends lived their days in happiness. When Gitti had newly arrived at the house to live in, she and Pinky had chanced upon a piece of bread at the same time, but Gitti reached it before Pinky. But Gitti did not touch the bread and instead she stepped back and said, “Pinky, take this one. I'll look for another one.” CHAMPAK “All right, I'll take it. But not the whole piece. Let’s share it.” replied Pi ‘Thus the two of them became friends. And they started playing, eating and running around the house together. Pinky would sometimes fly away and cry out to Gitti asking her to catch her. Gitti would again run and catch her, but Pinky would fly away again. When it was Gitt’s turn to trouble Pinky, she would hide in a narrow space and Pinky would say, “Come out, Gitti! You know I can’t get in there!” But one day suddenly, Pinky started being aloof. Gitti could not understand what had made Pinky to withdraw. She looked for Pinky all around the house. When she reached the roof, she saw that on the garret beside the stairs, in a nest made of pieces of paper. Pinky was quietly sitting with her eggs. She called out to her, but when Pinky did not respond, she had her meal alone and went to sleep. A few days later, Pinky came and took Gitti to her nest. Gitti was surprised to see two little pigeons inside it, who became excited hearing Pinky’s voice. Gitti was amused, and she said, “Oh, so they are the ones who kept you busy! I’m so happy for you. Can we take them to the roof?” “Not now, Gitti! They're too weak and tiny. They can’t even fly. So we must wait some time more to be able to play with them. When they learn to fly, they can come with us to the roof.” explained Pinky. Pinky brought food grains to feed the babies. Gitti too took some grains and approached the babies, but they stopped crying and stepped back. “People think babies are clueless and naive, But they're very smart. See how they stepped back—they know who their mother is and will only take food from her.” said Pinky. “That’s really smart! Why don't you feed them? I'll just watch from a distance.” Pinky took care of her kids and Gitti watched them grow up. When the babies grew wings, Pinky took them out and started teaching them how to fly. Gitti, too, came along. Slowly the kids started knowing Gitti. Rohit, the owner of the house, gave them food and came and sat on the roof with his tea. He would enjoy watching all the pigeons and squirrels eating and playing together. Seeing the baby pigeons, Rohit too decided that he should now get married and get settled. 20 One day, Gitti told Pinky, “Pinky, I really love your two kids. It’s so much fan playing and spending time with them.” “Gitti, you mustn’t be under the impression that the kids will always be there to play with you. As soon as they grow up to be adults, they will leave us and go on their own path looking for friends. ‘And then just you and I will be left to play together.” “But that’s so sad, Pinky, The same kids whom you took so much care of as they grew up, would leave you alone when they become independent,” said Pinky explained: “That's the law of nature, Gitti. Along with the kids, the parents also grow up to be healthier, more independent and confident. They too lead their individual lives happily and meet each other whenever they want. We don't to become a burden for each other.” “That’s wonderful, Pinky. Those kids are such lovely gifts. As long as they are with us, we'll enjoy their company. When they fly away, we'll be there for each other to play with.” said Gitty. The days passed. The pigeons kids grew up and flew away. Now there was only Pinky and Gitti in the house to play and run around. They remembered their earlier days. You can also think of a career for yourself with your skills or talent!” explained Granny. “But I don’t know anything, Nor can I do anything,” replied a sad Gracy. “Gracy, you have a hidden talent within you. Think about it,” encouraged Granny. “What hidden talent do Ihave, Granny?” asked a stunned Gracy. CHAMPAK, “Try to remember. You used to score A+ in crafts in your school. You made a mat out of old rags and a painting out of broken bangle pieces. The colourful paper flowers made by you were decorated all over the school building Have you forgotten that?” Granny recounted. “But you had helped me in making all those things,” replied Gracy. “OF course! But you had designed and crafted them. I am ready to help you even now,” said Granny encouragingly. “I just like making those things!” exclaimed Gracy at Granny’s idea. Without wasting any time, Gracy chalked out a schedule to start her work. First, she went online to know how to set up her own business. ‘Then she went on to meet her art and craft teacher, Chimpy baboon. Chimpy liked Gracy a lot. She felt happy, when Gracy expressed her desire to learn painting from her. She said, “I am free in the evenings between 4 to 6 p.m. You can come and learn during that period.” During the day, Gracy would learn “Phulkar?, ‘Chinkankar? , ‘Crotio’ and other types of embroidery originally from different states. In the evenings, she would go to Chimpy to learn painting from her. In the afternoons, she would browse the internet and learn making flowers out of cloth and paper. Not only did Gracy have talent, but she was highly committed and September (Firs!) 2018 hardworking. It didn’t take her long to master all these skills. Soon she became an expert in making all types of handicrafts. She started making artificial flowers, art pieces, paintings on old bottles and turned them into vases. She also made wall hangings out of coconut coir and ice cream sticks. Gracy started selling her handicrafts from home. She also enrolled herself into a statue making class. She was a keen observer too. She would engrave beautiful concepts on her crafts. She introduced new and novel designs every day:The demand for her products grew rapidly so did her business. She started employing a few workers to help her out too. 29 Gracy’s handicrafts were the talk of the forest. One day, Bhoori monkey, Shilpi wolf and Disco duck met her in the market. “like the view of the sea. So I got a sea view painted on my bedsheet by Gracy,” said Shilpi. “And I gota scene of a river flowing through the mountains on my dupatta.” said Bhoori. “There’s no doubt in it. Whether you need to decorate your house or gift something innovative to someone, you get them all at Gracy’s store,” added Disco. Gracy’s business expanded in no time. And Gracy opened a store that was the talk of the forest! Summer holidays started and Gracy’s classmates were back home from their colleges. They were surprised to hear about Gracy. “This is just miraculous Gracy! We still have to pursue our studies for two more years and then we have to search for a job, But you have achieved a lot in such a short span of time. You are already running a successfull business,” said everyone praising her. After a few days, Gracy decided to join the Institute of Design. It was a part time course. Granny asked Gracy, 30 “You are running such a successful business. Why do you have to enrol yourself for anything else?” “Granny, this way I will fulfil my dream of achieving higher studies. I can also learn new techniques to develop my career. My business will run more successfully,” replied Gracy.
