200 workers protesting on the streets for not getting salary for 2 months
Introduction: Chowdhury and Son’s apparels is a manufacturer of clothes which has clients
overseas. Respected clients like H&M, Burberry, and Polo. This apparel is in the business for
20 years and one of the pioneer company in apparel industry.
Event: In 2017, after having 2 profitable quarter the workers of the company accused them
for not paying salary for 2 months and even after talking there was no solution. So, workers
decided to stop working and protest on the streets.
Remedy: After protesting for 48 hours, govt. stepped in to solve the conflict. So, they called
the representative of workers, representative of owners and 14 board members. After a
meeting of 2 hours, they came to a solution and paid the workers with 2% bonus.
Sanofi decided to leave Bangladesh
Introduction: Sanofi, a multinational company originated from France which is present in
Bangladesh since 1958.
Event: After announcing their leave in 2019, the employees protested in front of the Sanofi
industrial area and urged them to pay their salaries before leaving.

Remedy: Sanofi holds 54.6% of share of their operation in Bangladesh. After protests, the
came to a solution that, they had had initially committed to 12 months of collective
employment guarantee, Sanofi has now announced that its employees will continue on the
current terms and conditions that exist today for three years from the closing of the
transaction. The employees will also continue to have the same benefits.

Comparison: Both companies failed to pay salaries. In one govt. stepped in and in another
they fixed it internally. Sanofi handled it carefully, no outside parties had to step in. Which
kept their reputation of multinational companies. In the other one, govt. stepped in to fix the
problem. In this case Sanofi wins and handled everything wisely.
