The image after the preprocessing stage

The preprocessing stage includes the operation such as thresholding and thinning
operation. On applying the thresholding operation the background and foreground separation is
done. Then the thinning operation is performed and the above result is displayed as shown
above.

After integrating all the tasks of the system, the system must be tested to check whether
or not the system meets its desired functionalities. For this different image formats (such as
JPEG, png, bmp etc) are provided to test and verify that the desired output is obtained. The
image including all type of characters is provided to verify whether they are detected accurately.

Fig 5. The output form where the characters from the scanned image is detected and converted to
an editable form.

The above figure displays the output of the scanned image after applying the
preprocessing operations. The image containing pictures are given as input to test whether the
characters are identified.

The sample image containing symbols and digits are then given as input to test the
accuracy in detecting them.

image.

The digits are recognized accurately. Even though all the symbols are not detected,
majority of them are identified accurately. The proposed methodology presents more accuracy
than the existing system.

5.1 Result Analysis

After undergoing the testing phase it is analysed that the proposed methodology is much
more effective and accurate compared to the existing ones. The various characters are detected
more accurately. Any file formats can be given as input such as .jpeg, .png, .bmp etc.
Irrespective of the format the characters in the input scanned image is detected accurately to a
greater extent. Even if the input comprises an image within, only the characters, symbols or
digits present in it are only recognized and will be present in the output form. With the proposed
technique that is the geometric feature points based optical character recognition certain special
symbols, digits along with the alphabets are detected more precisely. Only a small percentage of
the symbols remain unrecognized with the proposed method.
