INTRODUCCTION
Many processes of everyday life can be represented by means of the linear function, direct
proportionality is the relationship that we can see in most problem situations that constantly
happen to us, such as economic problems, investments, profits, losses, health
complications, use of technology due to time, statistical trends among others. For this
reason, it is important to study the linear function and its characteristics, that is, the slope
and its meaning, the cut-off points and its potentialities in environments other than
mathematical ones.
The aforementioned allows to establish an introductory way, to the fundamentals of
analytical geometry and conics in particular.

Solve the following Proposed Exercise:
1. A's age is 5 times that of B, the sum of both is 54 years. Find the ages.

corresponds to 1990, etc. ., and it's in millions of dollars. Based on this model, what
would be the approximate amount of credit card fraud losses in 1994? In what year
would the losses reach 3,660 million dollars (that is, 3,660,000,000)?

Based on this model, what would be the profit generated in 1992? In what year would the
revenue be $ 2.43 billion?

CONCLUSIONS
 A positive slope in a linear function indicates growth or increase of the dependent
variable
 A negative slope in a linear function indicates decrease or decrease of the dependent
variable
 In economics, the concepts of slope and linear function allow establishing the
equilibrium point between income and expenses of a company, as well as profits
and losses
 The Pythagorean theorem, having the legs as variables and their radius as constant,
generates a circle in the Cartesian plane
