Technical & Commercial Proposal

for the

Geophysical Survey of Abueke Community

Submitted to

His Royal Highness Eze Wilford Mbagwu

[On Behalf of Abueke Community]

14th February 2021

1.0 INTRODUCTION
Sequel to tele-conversations with His Royal Highness Eze Wilford Mbagwu (on
behalf of the Abueke Community) and a 13th February 2021 site visit to the
Community in Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State, Ecospectra
Limited is pleased to submit this proposal for the geophysical investigation of the
said environment.

This proposal outlines our understanding of the investigation, proposed

methodology to execute the works, work schedule and cost estimate.

NB: The geotechnical/drilling proposal/works shall be discussed following results

from the geophysical investigation.

services and responsiveness by using clear strategies to reduce risks and leave
behind efficient and cost effective solutions that meet and exceed expectations.

1.2 Study Objectives

The Abueke Community is in dire need of ground water resource inorder to meet
her domestic requirements, hence, desirous of a geophysical survey that will aid
define the stratigraphical/reservoir characteristics of the subsurface to support
further drilling activities.

2.0 SURVEY METHODOLOGY

We propose to deploy the resistivity technique for the proposed geophysical
investigation due to its suitability for ground water studies. 10 test locations shall
be established for the investigation and properly geo-referenced: 1 test point at
the community centre (around the Primary School/Church/Town Hall area); 7 test
points spread across the north, south, east and west areas of the community; 2
test points at the nearby community where existing boreholes are situated.

The Schlumberger configuration which prescribes maintaining the potential
electrode (a) distance to a minimum while the current electrodes (b) are being kept
at a finite distance shall be adopted. The electrode spacing shall be defined at site
considering inherent conditions at designated test points.

Below is a typical Schlumberger’s configuration.

Figure 1: Schlumberger Configuration

The equipment that shall be used for this survey are: Ohmega Resistivity meter
with accessories such as electrodes and reel cables; and a global positioning
system.

Upon setting the investigation configuration at each test point, the resistance values in
ohms shall be directly read off the screen of the equipment and recorded in field sheets
for further processing.

Field QC Protocol
Generally, onsite quality control / assurance protocols shall be adopted to ensure data
reliability:
 firm ground coupling of the electrodes by at least 2/3 electrode burial;
 checking current leakage and creeps to avoid spurious measurements;
 wetting hard ground with water at electrodes positions (where applicable) to avoid
spurious results.
 providing adequate offset for electrode positions that coincided with water logged
areas or existing electrical or pipeline interferences;
 charging equipment battery daily after each days exercise to maintain maximum
voltage supply during the survey;
 ensuring good contacts between the connecting cable’s crocodile clips and the
stainless steel electrodes as well as the cords connecting the meter to the cable
reel. Also, from time to time, the test resistor was used to confirm the functionality /
calibration of the resistivity meter.

Data Processing
The resistance values generated from the equipment shall be further processed to
determine the resistivity which is generally based on the iteration of the formula below.

Where: A is the distance between the two inner electrodes in m
D is the distance between the outer electrode and the centre of the two inner electrodes
in m
R is the resistance read in Ohms for each separation

The layer resistivity and thicknesses will be determined using computer iterations using
IPIWin and similar softwares for 1D simulation.
