Safety: Warning Levels

• Level 1 (Danger) - An accident


(likely to be fatal) may occur if
safety precautions are
neglected.

• Level 2 (Warning) - An
accident (likely to be fatal or
cause serious injury) may
occur if safety precautions
are neglected. It may also
damage the product.

• Level 3 (Caution) - An
accident (likely to cause
injury) may occur if safety
precautions are neglected. It
may also damage the product.

Safety: ESD Protection

ESD Wrist Strap:


• Contains a resistor with an ohmic value
greater than 1MΩ
• Always use when handling printed
board assemblies and Integrated Circuit
(IC) components
• Must be connected to earth

Hazards: Batteries and Heights

Batteries
General Precautions - Remove wristwatches and other
jewelry, use insulated tools, ensure eye wash facilities are
available, use rubber gloves, aprons, and eye protection
Be cautious of short-circuited batteries, explosive gases,
overheated batteries, and leaks
Working at Heights
General Precautions - Ensure appropriate training and
certification, use safety harness and helmet, adequate
cold-weather clothing, tested and approved lifting
devices, etc.
Ladders - Ensure proper security, check proper angle, use
ladder supports, extend ladder completely, check anti-slip
treads, three point ladder contact, etc.

Hazards: Radio Frequency (RF)

Radio Frequency (RF) Electromagnetic Fields (EMF)


Safety Requirements:
• Basic knowledge of RF safety
• Informed or trained in exposure risks and appropriate
precautionary measures
Recommendations:
• Do not stand or work in front of operational antennas
unless RF levels are verified to be within safety limits
• Be aware of other RF transmitters located close to the RBS
antenna; contact transmitter operator to verify safety levels
• Repair broken or disconnected cables that can lead to RF
exposure reaching or exceeding acceptable levels

Hazards: Heavy Equipment, Fire, and Sharp Edges

Handling Heavy Equipment:


• Use tested/approved/stabilized lifting devices only
• Use clear/consistent command signals
• Use acceptable lifting hook/strap angles (< 90°)
Fire:
• Close cable ducts/fire doors as soon as possible
• After working on cables, seal cable ducts according to
building regulations
• Minimize amount of inflammable material and avoid storing
empty packaging material on site
• Use powder or CO2 fire extinguisher due to the RBS
electrical equipment
Sharp Edges:
• Wear protective gloves when handling equipment

Examples of faulty
connections:

Visual Inspection:
a) The crimp is in the right place with full depth.

b) All wires in the conductors are undamaged and


pressed together inside the crimped object.

c) The wires of the conductor have passed all the way


through the C-clamp, or are visible through the
inspection hole in the lug.

d) No visible cracks or other damage to crimping object


or conductor.

e) 2 crimpings only if cable lug size is equal to or bigger


than 70mm2
