QUESTION 1

a) Explain two (2) causes of incidence of poverty in Malaysia.

(10 marks)

b) Two Malaysian scholars, Chamsuri Siwar (1996) and Maimunah Ismail (1990), in their
studies, indicated that poverty issues are happening in most of our rural areas. To
combat poverty among the local people, the Malaysian government had implemented
several rural development programs.  

Discuss three (3) objectives of rural development and support each objective with
relevant examples.
