2019 National Reading Month Celebration

(Narrative Report)

“The more you read the more things you will know. The more that you learn the more
places that you will go. -Dr. Seuss”. We can say that reading is one of the very important
element of education. Understanding what we are reading is a key and is certainly the main
point of teaching reading in a class.
As an institution of learning, a school need to challenge itself to prosper the love for
reading in every pupils. In adherence to DepEd Memorandum No. 158, s. 2019, San Rafael
Alto Elementary School joined the national observation of the National Reading Month 2019
this November with the theme: Magbasa’t Umunlad. The Department of Education leads the
whole nation to promote love of reading.
San Rafael Alto ES held its own celebration of the Reading Month with a kick-off
held at the SRAES Covered Court. The activities started on November 8, 2019 and ended on
November 27, 2019 through the organization of School Reading Focal Person, Mrs. Gina P.
Ramos and supported by the school head, Mrs. Cristilyn M. Acerit. The school arranged an
array of activities for the whole month in which pupils could foster and share their love for
reading in differentiated activities. The list of activities were the following: Literacy Buddies,
Reading Challenge, #shareabook, Help a Reader, and Reading Family. Finally, on November
27 at exactly 9:00 in the morning the school conducted “Araw ng Pagbasa Challenge”. All
learners, teachers and school personnel participated in the nationwide synchronized story
reading time. A culminating program concluded the celebration where pupils showcased their
talents.
Through the support of the entire school community and stakeholders, the school was
able to implement this activities successfully. The pupils participated actively and were able
to demonstrate that reading can take many forms but it does not need to be boring nor
terrifying. It can be enjoyed and shared with friends and loved ones.
In a world where digital gadgets are quickly taking over children's attention,
encouraging them to read will seem like a challenge. In this manner, they will be able to live
a thousand lives and hone their creative minds. Reading is a skill that a child must have to
face the challenges of the world and a sword that can be wield to cultivate creativeness.
