COURSE TITLE: Administration and Supervision of Education (Educ. 203)
BLOCK: E
Topic: Unit Two: Functions of School Administration and Supervision
Reflection:
School Administrators play a vital role in setting the direction for
successful schools but productive leadership depends heavily on its fit with the
social and organizational context in which it is exercised. They are the primary
catalysts for creating a lasting foundation for learning, for driving school and
student performance, and for shaping the long-term impact of schools’
improvement efforts.
In the topic that was discussed last Saturday I learned the different
function of an administration and supervision. The first reporter discussed the
different functions of school administration. And those are planning, organizing,
directing, coordinating, supervising and evaluating. Wherein, planning is the
fundamental function of school administration. Organizing is the unifying of
efforts to get things done. Directing includes myriad task to be carryout by
administrator. Coordinating is the activity of bringing the people, materials,
ideas, and techniques. Supervising is the studying and improving teaching-
learning situation. Lastly, evaluating to which evaluation of actions takes place.
Also, I learned that providing leadership is not easy to do. Leadership refers to the
quality of leading people. Probably, it is one of the most important aspects of life.
Above all, Leadership has led to the progress of human civilization. Without good
Leadership, no organization or group can succeed. Furthermore, not everyone
has this quality. This is because effective Leadership requires certain important
characteristics.
The discussion of the second and the last reporter centered around in
supervision and its functions. When I think of supervision, I think of a process
where the supervisor and the staff has developed and built a relationship and
rapport. Communication is a key component in this process as collaboration is
frequent and on-going. A supervisor must listen, hear the staff, and be
supportive. This is extremely important in order to gain the respect and trust of
the staff. Supervision is constantly revolving and staff can be at various points
throughout the school year and their career. Effective supervision promotes a
collegial relationship and conversation based on strengths and needs through a
shared vision of the program and/or classroom.
I also learned the difference between the boss and the leader. A boss
manages and directing their employees, while a leader inspires them to innovate,
think creatively, and strive for perfection. Every team has a boss, but what people
need is a leader who will help them achieve greatness.
