PART I:

 Reflection on your experiences in gathering data of the Dance Research amidst

pandemic.

The Pandemic has not been an easy experience for the entire humanity. It deteriorated
the lives of almost all individuals in the world and has caused serious problems in the
academe. Enrolling for a Master’s degree program amidst the pandemic is a challenging
journey that tested our patience, diligence, and commitment.

Earlier this semester, we were instructed to conduct dance research which is

envisioned to ameliorate our expertise in dance and the field of research. We are blessed to
have had this amazing opportunity to venture into professional growth and development and
be more efficient in our field of expertise.

Honestly, due to the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the difficulty
of completing this course of work has doubled. The numbers of Covid-19 infections have
increased significantly for the past few months and this rise in the infection rate is not only
evident here in the province but even more apparent in the data projected for the Philippines’
Covid-19 status.

One of the most difficult experiences I had in the process of gathering data for the
Dance Research was border restrictions. Due to the spike in Covid-19 infections,
municipalities have decided to close their borders or limit the number of individuals who can
enter their respective municipalities. In the case of Maayon, our town had been subjected to a
surgical lockdown because of the sudden rise of cases in the town proper. This trimmed down
our access to different services both from the government and private agencies. Because of
this, interviewing to collect data for interpretation is not even feasible.

Data gathering has also been a whirlwind experience because of limited prospected
informants. Relative to the border restrictions being imposed by the local government units of
the different municipalities, I have had issues in finding out possible sources of data for the
dance research since I was not sure if the identified informants will cater to our needs in their
offices without a formal letter of communication. In addition, letters of communication can’t
be easily processed due to strict health protocols and border restrictions in the province. This
makes research that requires data from selected individuals through an in-depth interview,
challenging. Nonetheless, the experience itself made us realize the importance of health and
safety while also doing our best to comply with the given task for professional competence.

PART III:

 Reflection Paper on the Dance Composition, Performance and Production.

This semester was a rough journey for everyone. Not only for us students but also our
teachers. It was quite difficult to materialize things that we normally do because now we have
stricter rules in terms of health protocols and plenty of restrictions for our safety.

Skill-based courses like MAPEH are heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. From

perseverance, and diligence were massively tested especially with the skills being measured
and assessed.

We had three major divisions for this course. The first is Dance Composition. Dance
Composition is the process of creating a dance. Although we haven’t had the chance to
execute this certain skill this semester, I’m pretty sure that as a student who took MAPEH as
our major in college has allowed us to create dance at least once in our student life. We also
had the opportunity to compose dance as a professional especially when duty calls. MAPEH
majors are often the first resort during school performances and it is a must for us to have

that as MAPEH majors, we were able to have had the opportunity to perform on and off
stage especially during practical exams in dance subjects and when requested for intermission
numbers and competitions. These instances have provided us opportunities to explore the
world of performing and somehow feel the nerves when doing the stuff. Performance in
dances has equipped us with skills like stress and nerve management, presence of mind,
focus, ability to apply improvisation when confronted by mistakes during a performance, and
of course, improvement in the art of dancing itself.

The last stage of the three major divisions in this course is dance production. It is the
last topic we discussed in the entire duration of this semester and like in dance, it is also the
last stage in planning a dance presentation or performance. Dance production requires a deep
sense of responsibility and strong management skills. Prods can sometimes be chaotic
especially when it is grand and massive. The success of a dance production can’t be relied
fully on the hands of the production staff but also all the persons involved in the production.
This includes choreographers, dancers, and the production team. The production committee
will take over all the technical aspects of the production and they shall take the lead in making
sure that they share the same vision and objectives with that of the performers and
choreographers to foster unity and avoid miscommunications. Both in our college and
professional life, we have learned the value and pre-requisites of dance production.

These three – composition, performance, and production are the stages when doing a
dance presentation. They must be chronologically followed to maintain harmony and proper
organization. One must be followed by the other and the other must be preceded by one to
ensure good and quality work of art. In every performance, we have to consider these three

stages to guide our decisions and maintain a steadfast road to the successful production of
dance presentations.
