1. Based on the documentary you have watched, highlight three crisis/challenges that
Rohingyas’ are dealing with.
From the video that I have watched, the Rohingya people are experiencing an ethnic
cleansing because the country does not recognize them as citizens or even just as human
beings residing in the same areas as them. Due to this neglect, the poor Rohingya people do
not receive support from the government, their movements are restricted and so to make a
living is difficult. They were deprived of their rights as humans, such as the opportunities for
a job, access to education and health care, basic needs like food, and even the right to have a
self-identity.
The military itself, which was supposedly the one that protects people from harm, are
the ones torturing the Rohingya people. Houses are being burned up to piles, properties are
being exploited, people are being persecuted, and women are being systematically taken
advantage of. These people are literally suffering widespread violence from the people in
their own country just because they are perceived differently.
Because of this inhumane treatment, the Rohingya people were forced to evacuate for
the safety of their lives in Bangladesh. They had to climb mountains, cross the rivers and the
seas just to get away from those terrible people of Myanmar from which they came from.
The military was literally chasing them down and so they had to leave as soon as possible.
But due to their haste, most of them did not get to bring their clothes or anything. The
Rohingya people had to starve and endure the body pain from walking for hours and for
carrying loads of heavy things and babies. Malnutrition and all kinds of muscle pain or
maybe even severe diseases were in all of them but being stateless, to endure all of it is their
only choice.

2. Why is raising awareness on situation of this ethnic tribe (the Rohingyas) important?
Raising awareness about cases like this is very important. Aside from it being an utterly
discriminatory and cruel situation that deserves compassion and empathy, to raise awareness
about the suffering they (the Rohingya people) have been through will be something that
shall make a difference as this could lead to changes and betterment. If their country could
not afford to treat them even as human beings, who are going to accept them and care for
them except us? Raising awareness would not just mean informing other people about how
unjust this racial treatment is. It would also mean mobilization and taking actions to address
their problems that were no address by their government that would be of help for them.
Somehow and hopefully, a bit of a helping hand would lighten up their load.

3.“The level of civilization of a person is measured on how he responds to those in need”.

I think what this statement means has something to do about having the desire to address
the needs of those around you. We are now living in the modern world. Living our daily
lives gets a lot easier especially as technology advances continuously. Almost all populations
are now deemed civilized, although there are some, particularly among ethnic tribes, who are
still living in an old fashion way which makes them more and more vulnerable. Due to this
fact, no matter how modern and effortless our lives seem to be, we are bound to face issues
that are worse than before.
I think what the word “civilization” means is similar to the state of arising as a highly
evolved being. Being an evolved person means that you are aware of yourself and those
around you, you embrace very beneficial principles, and you can create harmony within your
society. With all the resources that you have with just the reach of your hands, being a
civilized or an evolved person makes you consider other matters and people. Because by
being civilized, you are equipped, advanced, and enlightened. Therefore indeed, the level of
civilization of a person is measured on how he responds to those in need. Or basically, on
how he makes use of what he has to contribute to the development of the world for he knows
that it also has some needs.
