3 STRUCfURE ofSELFJRCTOR
3.1 General
Rg. 3-1 outlines the structure of SELFJECTOR.
The power is transmitted from the motor through the friction
clutch to the horizontal shaft and is further increased in s p e d
and lmmmitted to the vertical shaft through the spiral gear
mounted on the horizontal shaft and pinion on the vertical
fu

shaft.
The vertical shaft is supported by upper and lower bearings.
The bow! mounted on the top of the v d c a l shaft rotates at
the speed of the vemcal shaR
To supply feed liquid to SELFJECTOR, the suction pump
(gear pump) is connected to the horizontal shaft through the
safety joint. To deliver light liquid, the centripetal pump Gear pump
(impeller) is built in the top of bowl. For SJ7OF-SJJOF,
heavy liquid overflcws from the bowl and drops its own weight Hrizontal
or, for SJ4W--SJlOOF, is discharged outside by a built-in dutch shaft
centripetal pump similar to that for light liquid. Spiral gear

3.3 Bowl
3.3.1 Structure of bowl
The bowl vessel mainly consists of body, hood and nut. The bowl incorporates separation chamber
composd of disc (1) and top disc and distributor which distributes feed liquid from the bowl inlet to the
separation chamber uniformly.
There is a main cylinder which slides vertically by water pressure to discharge sludge separated and
accumulated on the inner wall of bowl during operation.
At 2 points on the outer periphery of bowl, there are pilot valve assemblies for controlling the main
cylinder slide.
When feed liquid introduced through the feed liquid Inlet through the distributor to the separation
chamber passes through the gap between discs {I), solids and water are separated and purified oil is
continually delivered outside by the centripetal pump (light liquid impeller) located on the top ofbowl.
For SJ 1OF-SJ30F, separated water overflows continually.
For SJ40F-SJIQOF, separated water is continually discharged outside by the heavy liquid impeller.
Gravity disc
For purifier opetation, the interface for separating light liquid and heavy llquid in the bowl must be held
to within a certain range. On SELFJECTOR, gravity discs of different inner diameters are used to
change ihe heavy liquid outlet diameter, thereby ccotmlling the interface position.
Select an optimum gravity disc according to "Gravitydisc selecting procedure" in Operation manual 2.
X : For the HIDENSE specifications use the gravity disc for clarifier.

Main saal ring
\ I seat and the water pressure chamber for closing bowl is filled
with operating water. The operating water pressura pushes
up the main cylinder to seal ?hemain seal ring for purifying
operation.
Operating water for closing bowl is intermittently introduced
into the bowl closing water pressure chamber for a given
period of time during purifier operation. In the water pressure
chamber, the centrifugally generated pressure of water hat
turns with the bowl is balanced with lthe supplied water
pressure told the water surface at a certain level, Actually,

Operatrng water for opening bowf is fed for a certain time to the
water pressure chamber for opening bowl. It pa* goes out
through the drain nods. More operating water for opening
b d is supplied and fills up the water pressure chamber for
apming bowl. As its presswe slides the pilot valve .toward the
shaft center, the seal of valve seat breaks and opmting water
for closing bowl flows out from the bowl.

3.3.3 Discharge mechanbm (Padal discharge)
In the case of FSP-IA and FSH-PA system, the paml discharge mode and the total discharge mods are
used for partial discharge and total discharge sludge, respectively. Pescribd below is the mechanism for
partial discharge.
Main cylinder

/ As in Vie total discharge mode, a centrifugal force acting on
the pilot valve seals the valve seat and the W r pressure
chamber for dosing bowl is filled with operating water. The
operating water pressure pushes up the main cylinder to seal
the main seal ring €or purifying operation.
Operating water for closing bowl is intermlttmtly inlroducd
into ttre bowl clasing water pressure chamber for a given
period of time during purifier operation. In the water pressure
chamber, the centrifugally generated pressurn of water that
turns with the bowl is balanced with the supplied water

operation.
Feed liquid goes m through feed liquid inlet (I),passes through distributor (A) and is fed to the outer
periphery of disc (1) (B). Heavy liquid (water) and &ids are separated to the outer p r i m of ImwI
and light liquid moves thmugh the discs (1) inward and is discharged by the light liquid impeller.
Heavy liquid passes oukJds the k p disc (C) and overflows wer the gravity disc outside tha machine.
(SJ#F--100F are prwided Mth a heavy liquid impeller, by mans of which heavy liquid is
dikhargsd,)
1. When h e specSfic gravity of oil ta trmt exceeds 0.991 (at I%), the rgpecific gravity range
c a v e d by a g r a m disc narrows. As the specific gravity nears 0.999 (at 15"C), tha treatment
gets easy ta be affectad by temperature, flwv variation and ewer operating condition changes,
thereby causing abnormal ouHFow or pow separation. Therefore, a clarifier operation is
recommended.
2. For clarifier operation, there is no heavy liquid outM for discharging separated water and,
therefore, separated water cannot b d i a r g e d mn2lnualiy.
I
The HIDENS SYSTEM consists of partial discharge clarifier and Water Detector and, when the
Water Detector provided at the putifled oil outlet has detected a certain amount of s e p a m d
wter in the M,d i s c h a m separated water. This system combines a feature of clarifier or
freedom from mbnmal outflow, etc. and a feature of purfm or eantinual water separation and is
capable of stable purifying operation without using a gravity disc for fuel oil whose s p i f gravity
~
is up to I.OJ (at ISt).
3. Water sealing is unneoessary.

So long as the feed rate is within the actual capacity, 1 stage of purification suffioes bas*mlly.
When, however, treating ail for which catalyst mixture, excessive sludge, etc. are expected, raising the

3.7.2 Serles operation
In case d a series operatlm by 2 SELFJECTORs, detach the gear pump furnished wlth the
latter stage SELFJECTOR from the safety joint because It Is not usad.
Do not use the oil heater for the latter stage.
For a series operatran, the former stage is for purifier operation and the latter stage is for clarifier
operation usually.
rn In case of a series operation by 2 machines, a general practice is purifier operation for the former
stage aml clarifw operation for the latter stage.
The feed rate must be the same as for a single operation.
Fig. 9-22 exemplifks piping for a M e s operation.
NOTE
In case of a series operatlon, when the furmar stage SELFSECTOR enters into the
dlscharglng process, no all Is I n h d u c e d into the latter stage SELFJECTOR [as Is the case
where the operation Is stopped by an alarm signal) durlng the discharge, Thle causes the
Leakage ManZtor to generate a false alarm. Therefore, the latter stage SELFJECTOR requires
an Interlock system that prevents the output of false alarms by the Leakage Monltor. [For
