Break circulation is to establish the flow after static conditions like after connection.

The pressure
required to break circulation is

Pgs = ( y % 300 % d ) L

Where pgs is pressure required to break circulation in psi

Y is the 10 mm gel strength of drilling fluid in Ib / 100 sq ft

D is the inside diameter of the drillpipe in inches

L is the length of drill pipe in ft

One needs more pressure in the drillstring to break gel than in the annulus

Shock depends on three factors. One is time, second is magnitude and third is frequency.

Axial

Along the axis of the drill strong. Bit bounce - damage bit teeth

Lateral

Banging on bore hole walls

Torsional

Bit digs deep into formation or stabilizers dig into formation

BHA whirl

Large bore hole - happens in vertical wells. Forward- backward and chaotic whirl. Forward while
happens in the same direction as rotation of the drill string. Backward whirl is in opposite direction
which can result in excessive fatigue and result in washouts, twist off.

Whirl is associated with PDC bits because of aggressive nature of PDC cutting action.

Stick slip

Non uniform rotation of the drill string. BHA can stop and reverse the string. String stores the energy
from top drive. When store energy is released the BHA needs to catchup. Reverse action due to release
of energy
