The learner understands how ICT enslaves, emancipates, and empowers individuals.

Standads The learner organizes and mobilizes an event that deals with a significant global issue, using ICT.
C. Learning Competencies/ Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Utilize technology effectively rather than be enslaved by it
2. Identify dimensions of technology that are enabling and not inhibiting
3. Discuss the benefits of technology

B. REVIEW Ask: As a review, what is your concept of technology?


The objective for the first two meetings is to utilize technology effectively rather than to be enslaved.

First, we have to establish that our current technologies are enabling

C. MOTIVATION Picture Analysis


The teacher shows the pictures of a cassette tape and player; CD and CD player; and portable MP3 player.
The teacher then explains the evolution of technology.

Ask:
From cassette to MP3, how has listening to music changed? Why?
D. PRE-ACTIVITY Picture Analysis

The class will be divided into 8 groups. Each group will be given 3 pictures of ICT tools; they should
arrange the pictures in a chronological order—from the earliest model/version to the latest model/version.
The groups are given 2 minutes to brainstorm and another minute to post the photos on the board.
Process questions for the reporting:
a. What did you notice about the pictures presented?
b. Who among you have had any of these ICT tools?
c. In terms of features, which do you prefer?
d. Among the 7 items, choose those that you cannot live without.
The teacher will write on the board the keywords from the students’ responses to the questions.

The same 8 groups will be writing down the emerging themes from their earlier activities.

Guide questions for the report:


a. How did you come up with the themes?
b. How are your themes connected to each other?
c. How are your themes connected to technology?

Process questions for the reporting:


a. What answers are shared among the different groups?
b. What answers are not that common?
c. If we were to summarize all the answers, what do you think is the general theme?
F. POST ACTIVITY Picture Me: Group Tableau
The class will re-cluster into 3 groups. In 3 minutes each group will form a tableau to answer the
following questions:

1. What is the group tableau all about?


2. How useful are those tools to you? To your society?
3. Imagine your community without those 7 tools, what will your everyday life look like?

The teacher will process the activity.

G. APPLICATION “In an Instant”

Ask two volunteers to relay a message to a teacher of your choice.


The teacher should be in school/home. Volunteer 1 will relay the message by calling or texting the teacher.
Volunteer 2 will need to relay the message by using email address. They are given 2 minutes to relay the
message.

Process questions:
a. How was the experience?
b. How different is the experience of volunteer 1 from volunteer 2?

H.GENERALIZATION Ask:
How does technology affect our life?

Technology has made life easier and convenient.

tools are present. Group 2, on the other hand, will present a scenario where all the ICT tools are absent. Each group is given 3-5 mins
