LEARNING EXERCISE: DEVELOP A SWOT MATRIX FOR NESTLÉ S.A.
Strengths:
1. The firm competes globally with 2014 sales breakdowns from the United States,
Latin America & Caribbean, Europe, and Asia, Oceania, & Africa of 26, 17, 28, and
29 percent respectively.
2. Nestlé's North American Espresso sales have increased since launching the Virtue
line and that brand now has 36 new boutiques in the United States.
3. Nestle has the largest R&D budget of any food company; the firm aims to offer
healthier and tastier options from infant formula to products designed for seniors.
4. Nestle recently reduced the amount of salt, sugar and saturated fats in many of its
products as a means of improving nutrition while enhancing other flavors so not to
reduce the taste of their products.
5. Nestlé's increase in Nutrition and Health Science sales is in line with the firm’s
overall strategy of becoming increasingly a health and wellness firm, rather than
solely a food company.
