Guidelines For Foreign Student Part-Time Employment Visa (S-3)
All foreign students who have D-2 visas can only work part-time jobs, after you
apply for an S-3 (part-time employment) visa.
▶ After completing the S-3 application form, you must visit International Student
Center (Main Bldg. 2nd floor) and get confirmation from ISC.
▶ You can only start working after your S-3 visa has been approved by
immigration office. If you work without permission, there will be penalties
regarding your residence in Korea and you will have to pay a fine.
1. Part-time Eligibility
❍ Study Abroad (D-2) visa holders who have confirmation from ISC
2. Permissible Areas
❏ Criteria
❍ Whether the work is related to your major and the job can be done in complement
with school studies
❍ Whether the job is generally agreed to be socially accepted
※ However, private tutoring is not permitted due to its distinct characteristics and to protect
the domestic employment market
❍ Whether it is against good morals or is not disruptive of the social order
❏ Permissible Hours
❍ Undergraduate students: 25 hours per week
❍ Master․doctoral degree students and research students: 30 hours per week
※ Unlimited hours (will not be counted in weekday hours) for weekends & holidays during
the semester and the entire period of summer and winter vacations
※ Working hours by TOPIK score(effective from Oct. 1st, 2018)

❏ Period Permitted : one year within period of stay (until the expiration date on your ARC);
you can work at up to two places
❏ Change of Workplace : within permitted period, you can change your workplace (different
employer)
❍ How to apply: within 15 days of the change of workplace, report your new job on the
immigration office website (http://hikorea.go.kr)
❍ Provided the basic responsibilities of studying abroad are respected, students can receive
prize money, small amounts of compensation for one-time activities, or other temporary
daily activities, and these do not require an S-3 visa
