There is an irrefutable fact that the production and marketing of locally produced food have reached

a critical mass in the past few years. In this essay, I will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of this
type of product.

It is undeniable that local food has some noteworthy positive effects on humans. In terms of
ecological advantages, people can apply local food as an effective way to protect the environment.
Transporting foods involves the use of thousands of food trucks and air-plane, which make an
important contribution to emissions every day. Therefore, choosing domestic food can reduce
carbon footprint and save a lot of money. For instance, numerous imported food is prohibited in
Russia due to the attempt to prevent air pollution. Furthermore, buying local food results in a boost
to local economies as farmers will become more profitable if they sell more. Nevertheless, local food
becomes extremely popular is because it is very rich in nutrients. The longer fruit and vegetable
spend on a truck or in storage, the greater the loss of substances such as fiber, vitamins, and
minerals. Therefore, local food would be more beneficial and nutritious than other processed
products.

Despite these aforementioned benefits, several negative aspects should be taken into consideration.
Firstly, local foods and goods are typically expensive. Without fertilizers, Farmers and businesses
have no choice but to produce in smaller quantities. Also, local food can only be grown seasonally
with no preservatives. Thus, it tends to be spoiled quickly. As a consequence, you will only find a
limited selection of domestic food. Therefore, local food businesses incur higher costs, including
growing, producing, and distributing instantly their goods. Secondly, nowadays people are
dependent on ingredients from other countries. For example, India accounts for half of global
trading in spices. Obviously, without imported food, we could no longer cook make from scratch any
favorite recipes or meals by ourselves.

In conclusion, the essay discussed both the advantages and disadvantages of the local food system.
While the benefits are practical, the downsides could be a major hindrance to their future's big
success.
