Nigeria's Embattled 'Super Cop', DCP Abba Kyari Building Multi-million Naira
Mansion In Borno, Offered Neigbour N70million To Remove Building — Resident
Alleges
A resident of Borno state has said the bribery allegation against Nigeria’s Deputy Commissioner
of Police, Abba Kyari by suspected fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, alias Hushpuppi, didn't
come to him as a surprise.
The resident in a private message to a Nigerian academic and media scholar, Farooq Kperogi
claimed Kyari is currently building a mansion on Jemina Road, Damboa.
Kperogi quoted the Borno resident as saying, "Good evening Prof. Kyari is so super rich for the
job he does. He is building a mansion … and that house is something else. It is the first gigantic
double-gated house I'm seeing in Maiduguri, the gate is made of glass and steel. He wanted
paying a neighbor who has a house behind him 70 million naira so he can have his house out of
the way to enable him have straight access to the main road from this mansion. And with a
couple of people who have told stories implicating him, and them being shut up, it doesn't come
as a surprise at all,”
The United States Attorney’s Office, Central District of California, had issued an arrest warrant
against Kyari for his alleged links to Hushpuppi, who is standing trial for various offences that
include internet fraud and money laundering, among others. Hushpuppi has since pleaded guilty
to the charges and, if convicted, risks a 20-year-jail term, three-year supervision upon completion
of jail term and monetary restitution to the tune of $500,000 or more.
The court documents also outlined a dispute among members of the Hushpuppi conspiracy,
which allegedly prompted him to arrange to have an individual identified as ‘co-conspirator’
Kelly Chibuzo Vincent, jailed in Nigeria by DCP Kyari.
According to the affidavit, “Kyari is a highly decorated deputy commissioner of the Nigeria
Police Force who is alleged to have arranged for Vincent to be arrested and jailed at Abbas’
behest, and then sent Abbas photographs of Vincent after his arrest. Kyari also allegedly sent
Abbas bank account details for an account into which Abbas could deposit payment for
Vincent’s arrest and imprisonment.”
The Inspector General of Police has ordered an internal review of the United States’ authorities’
allegations against Kyari.
The suspect was then arrested and taken to custody. On interrogation, the suspect who
claimed to have separated from her husband nine years ago informed the police that her
two daughters left home during the Salah and didn't return till the following day.
This infuriated her, and when she wanted to beat them, people around pleaded on their
behalf and she left them, only for them to go out again the following day and passed the
night outside. It was the annoyance that made her lock them inside and injured them both
with broken bottle.
The older one Blessing Adekoya 19 was injured in the hand, while her younger sister
Ayomide was stabbed in the chest and unfortunately gave up the ghost while receiving
treatment.''
The commissioner of police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate
transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and
intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
Banks can’t be trusted, they will hoard dollars says Mailafia, ex deputy
governor of CBN
The ex deputy governor of CBN said commercial banks in the country cannot be trusted
with Forex sales, adding that they will “corner” the dollars and only release whatever that
is left after satisfying their interest.
He added that “the CBN has not told the public the rate, the banks will want to make a
profit over the official rate. We don’t know whether they will make a decent profit or
they will profiteer, old habits. I don’t think they will change, Leopards are very likely to
change their spots”.
