Purpose:

 Learning from classroom to work.


 Applying Handling, Stepping and Lifting technique to
real equipment and jobs.
 Reinforce the action message, and apply what they have
learned from the presentation.
 Get people thinking in terms of how and where they can
apply techniques in their daily activities.

Benefits:

 Can ask specific questions about tasks and applications.


 Problem solving and discuss tasks and applications in a
group.

Important Note:

 Preparation required for the work site practices, and clear


directions to promote skill development.
 Make sure that anyone who has injuries or concerns with their
physical condition uses caution when participating in
demonstrations or exercises.
 Explain that this is not a competitive class. The point is to feel

the difference during the exercise.


 Show the class how to protect partners and themselves before
releasing them to practice.

Requirement:

 Equipment required:
- PPE (as per OFS QHSE Std. S-003)
- Power pack motor (ppm)
- Pipe rack
- Breakout machine
- Chain tong
- Overhead crane
- Sling (certified)

 Personnel:
- 3 persons.

 Others:
- Work area / space for placing the tool

Task Description:
- Remove power pack motor (ppm) from the rack with
overhead crane.
- Carry the ppm into the breakout machine.
- Lay down the ppm over the stands.
- Breakout the ppm by using thong spanner
- Place the ppm on a different rack

Pre-exercise Briefing:

- Explanation of the task description.


- Check that all equipment is available and in good
condition.
- Select three participants.
What to Watch in the exercises:

 Prior to removing the ppm from the rack.


- Planning & Risk Identification
- Poor team work communication
Solution:
Ensure proper signaling.
 Readiness: - Get a verbal response.
 Timing: - Coordinate your moves
 Hazards: - Alerts and suggestions

Decide in advance:
 Who should do what - condition, size
 Use mechanical equipment?
 Best Route
 Leave your self an out - to save self and team
- Hand position, (e.g.: risking pinched fingers)
Solution: do not hold the ppm when first moving out
of the rack
- Stepping (obstacles, risking trip)
Solution: Clear the pathway

 During overhead crane carrying the ppm:

- Body Contact by the ppm.


Solution: stand away from carrying area
- Falling object due to uncontrolled ppm motion
striking an object in the lifting area
Solution: Direct the ppm during the lifting by using a
soft rope or clear area before carrying
 Prior to breakout of the ppm:

- “Safe Working Zone”, hand position when handling


chain tong when unscrewing the connection.
Solution: Place hands at the same point on the chain
tong/palm down, grip firmly, bend arm 30’ and pull it
down close to the body

- Feet Position (“Position of Strength”)


Solution: One foot forward.
- Back Position (imbalance, unstable)
Solution: One foot forward, slightly bend your
knees.

Participant practice:

 Tell participants - It's one thing to see the difference of


another person, but it is more important to feel the difference
for themselves.
 Give brief, clear instructions and show participants how to
try the correct technique.
Closing and Feedback:

Briefly go through the key learning points
