Objective: Compose clear and coherent sentences using appropriate grammatical structures:
- Subject-Verb Agreement with intervening Phrases

LET’S STUDY

An intervening phrase is word or phrase between the subject and verb that does not affect their
agreement with each other.
Examples of the intervening word or phrase include: including, like, plus, with, accompanied
by, along with, as well as, in addition to, one of, and together with. The intervening word or phrase does
not mean the same as and and so does not compound the subject and make it plural. The subject still
determines whether the verb is singular or plural to adhere to the subject-verb agreement.

Concept: Intervening phrases and clauses ____ ____ _________ subject - verb agreement.
Example:
John, accompanied by Gracie, goes to the movie every Saturday.
singular singular
