48 1
Like humans and
animals, plants are
also living things.
Plants are of many
types and they are
all around us. Some
plants grow on land
whereas some grow
in water. You must
have seen very small
plants and some big
plants like trees.

Plants are very important. There are

many uses of plants. Without plants, life
would not be possible on Earth. Plants
give us oxygen.

They also give us food like vegetables,

fruits, cereals etc.

Plants remove gases (Carbon dioxide) which are harmful

for the Earth.
Excess of carbon dioxide heats up the Earth which causes
climate change.

PARTS OF A PLANT
Plants have different parts and each part has a different
job to do.

Flower is the part

which make fruit.

Leaf makes food

for the plant.

Stem takes water

and minerals from
the roots to the
leaves.

Roots grow in the

soil. They take up
water and minerals
from the soil.

IMPORTANCE OF PLANTS FOR CLIMATE CHANGE
Plants play an important role in stopping climate change.
They keep the air clean from harmful gases. The lesser
plants we have the more our Earth is in danger of climate
change, that’s why we should plant more trees.

LET’S FIND OUT

Go outside and
collect different
leaves. Observe the
differences between
them. Draw the
leaves on chart
and display in your
classroom.

Leaves are of different shapes and sizes.

Some are very small, some are long, and some are
broad.
Do you know we eat roots of some plants too?

Carrots, turnips, potatoes, beetroots are some vegetables

which are the root part of the plant.
