PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

1) Name and describe your organization.

The name of the company/organization that I have decided to use will be Nike. Nike is a
world renowned organization that is centered around the motto and the idea of, “Just Do
It.” This concept has driven people to push through their own limits in life and quite
literally Just Do It, pushing themselves to succeed. It started off as a running shoe
company that eventually branched off into other sports such as the NBA through all time
great sports figures like Michael Jordan and then after like Kobe Bryant and Lebron
James. Nike is the world’s largest supplier of athletic shoes and apparel, it is also a major
manufacturer of sports equipment!

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

I have decided to assume an executive role within the organization. A role where I handle
the outreach to new “players” (sports, models, etc.). I choose this specific position
because I believe that I would be able to effectively deal with any situations that would
arise, not to mention that I would love to work in a field or position that would allow me
to make connections outside of work. I also believe that these connections could one day
help me if I ever wanted to start my own brand.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

The situation that I have pictured in mind is one where a meeting is taking place between
myself, an athlete/model and their agent. This meeting would be one about endorsement
and specifically about endorsing the athlete/model. The conversation would be detailing
why we as an organization have decided to endorse this athlete/model based on not only
their performance in their respective field but also due to their public image. As a global
icon and leader within the community as far as sports and manufacturing it is important
for us to maintain a positive image. Meaning that whoever we endorse must also uphold

1
our ideals and image. Going forward we would like to endorse said athlete/model but
there must be a contract that is made first so that both parties are protected.
